Skout Skout EVO precision with slugs

I figured out the trigger problem. The trigger bar was binding some how causing the trigger to intermittently stay stuck back rearmost. I'm not exactly sure where. It was either where the pin goes through the trigger bar or the bar was dragging against the frame. I didn't want to disassemble it all. I fiddled with trigger adjustments hoping setting the trigger heavier would help, nope the problem remained.

There's a "hex screw/is also the trigger bar pin, on the side of the trigger housing so I loosened it then retightened less than before and the trigger worked correctly again??

Then when I went to fill the gun it couldn't take more than 2000 psi??!!
The leak is by the bottle qauge and fill nipple. I replaced those orings and it didn't fix the leaking.

This gun is really pissing me off!!!!

I tried to do a maintenace on the Evo on/off valve. Followed the video and did what they did, but somehow, it ended up leaking no matter how many orings i replaced..I finally called Darryl and asked for another on/off ...hasn't leaked since. I really don't know how i messed it up??

What a funky gun because 3 days later I went to try to air it up in the chance it wouldn't leak and guess what, now the darn thing takes all 4000 psi so I've been putting lead down range?! Last Wednesday I let some other guys shoot it and there's no challenge on a larger steel at 150Y in 10-15 mph winds. I took a few shots and was hitting the leg of a full size ram. I did miss it a few times left and right but the ones that hit made a small group.

BTW the trigger is working normally again.

I bought a bunch of steel to set on my property. They are the Shooting Target 7 NRL22 AR500 semi spinners. Have 11 total because they gave me two because I surpassed the money amount they set. Anyway I can't recommend these enough and a "far superior" system used than any company selling steel so far.

I tried Zan 28gr slugs yesterday for the first time and NOPE it wouldn't work out because of huge flyers. 2-3 touching at 100Y and then one 4" away. It only took 15 shots to abandon the notion of using these. I'll try Zan 33gr next.

Man those Altaros 32.2 grain shoot well as usual. My farthest steel is 132Y away and I was able to put in some 1" to 1.2" groups with 3-4 out of 5 making a large splat. This was in the wind too. That .18 G1 BC makes quite a big difference at 49 fpe!
When this gun works it's impressive!

POI shifts from different shooting sessions are small or not present which is a positive reason I like the gun. I've been laying the gun on both sides because of how and where I store it and also with some other guns on top of it with a blanket in between them so I haven't been nice to it. If I ever take it to a match again it'll be in topmost place a few days before though.

Hadn't shot the EVO since my last post so I wanted to see if it was working okay. Well except for the air leaking out  since the last time I shot it a month ago it worked fine. As usual it shoots those Altaros 32.3's very good and it had retained it's zero. I set a 10" steel at 200Y to see how that would go and made a first round hit lower on the steel, corrected, then only missed once in 20 or so shots.

I haven't tried it with pellets yet with the HP reg dialed down so I experimented with that too. I used 16gr Daystate Sovereign's and kept dialing the HP reg down until the SD's got bad which was at 750 fps/20-ish fpe then dialed back up to a 10 or so SD where it shot decently which was 770 fps. This only took a few minutes to do. It put in enough precision to hit a 1.5" spinner at 50Y, and a 2" spinner at 75Y, much of the time. It was really the wind that was causing the misses, though my impression was that the power needs to be bumped up a tad more because the precision was almost a inch at 50Y. I just wanted to see how low I could go and have it still shoot with decent precision.

It's funny how huge the difference is in the G1 BC of these projectiles which is .18 for the slugs vs .031 for the pellets.

I was getting tired so I stopped shooting but it'd be fun to see how many shots I can get out of a 4000 psi fill using this pellet speed. Might have to do a plinkfest in the near future to test it out.

It's convenient to change power levels and a versatile gun as far as that goes. Long range slugger to mild pellet plinker in minutes.

I had left the previous low settings on my EVO but today the 16gr pellets were averaging 788 fps with a SD of 9 for 29 shots however I didn't count the first shot which was higher velocity. For whatever reason this gun always shoots the first faster??

I got burned out trying to shoot the pressure down so it would fall off below the regulator. I stopped at 5 mags, so 150 shots, and it looked like I could have made it through another 60 shots. The reg was set to 600-ish psi and I started with a 3400 psi fill which was all my tank had in it. Probably would have gotten another couple mags more than that if I had been able to fill the gun to 4000 psi. So I'm guessing possibly could get close to 250 shots out of one fill at this setting. Fun experiment and as you can see it doesn't shoot bad at all.

At our Wednesday shootfest today I won best 5 shot group and the highest score in our 100Y contest with the EVO at this fpe setting using the 16 grainers. This is it and the wind was down to 2-4 mph.
The tape covering holes was from last week when shooting my Western Mordax Venom in 10 mph winds at 100Y. Score not great, and miscommunications with my spotter, lol. I was using 8x magnification so I couldn't see where my hits were landing and we were all competing in the 18fpe to 22fpe power levels.

With the 16's today;
I tried 26.5fpe/852 fps/HP reg at 900/SD of 7, and it shot well but SD was only 2fps less than when it was set at 22fpe/788fps/HP reg set at 600/SD around 9, not including that faster first shot.
Then tried 29fpe/917fps/SD of 1.8/ HP reg set at 1050psi. It was the clear winner and also very precise at 69Y. Vertical at 69Y was 3/4"[edit more like .6"]. I don't know how many shots I'll get out of a fill but I like it here using these pellets.

This was all fun seeing how the EVO did. Especially at 100Y yesterday when I found out how tight it could shoot in low wind at 22 fpe.

Did have one problem and it was a pellet that went too far forward causing the magazine to not advance for one shot so when I saw what had happened I lightly tapped the mag against the table which made the pellet, well all the pellets, go to the back of the magazine.

I really did get a great barrel!

And I keep saying it but I can't help but like this gun a lot/when it's working and it has been.

Might have our first fall night match on the 4th Saturday of this month so I'm gonna put it back to 49 fpe for the Alt slugs.
