I am trying out a 1” Rokr1 ldc housing to host some 3d printed baffles in an effort to quiet down my .357 Rex P. I had been using a larger diameter ldc that works great, but was curious what could be achieved with the slender tube.
First test was ten 1.4cm tall k baffles. No expansion chambers in the tube - just trying to engage with the airstream. This did a great job - Previously the rex p was making my ears ring and made a loud bang that sounded a bit like a firework or perhaps .22 With these baffles it is more of a mechanical clap / slap with a loud puff / burst of air - does not sound like a firework at all. I’m not sure how much the volume is reduced, but it no longer makes my ears ring if I don’t have sound protection, and it is not going to startle anyone I don’t think.
Just for the heck of it I am printing five 28 mm baffles and will see how that compares.
Then maybe mix-and-match short and long baffles to see what effect it has.
For now I’m just testing subjectively and comparing it to unbaffled but I might try to measure some thing later.
Anyway my goal is to explore a little bit of making the most of a small volume situation like this.
