SIZING

I wash, sort by weight, and lube my .25 pellets. This has increased the consistency of my POI at 50 yards and REALLY made a difference at beyond 50 yards. The only step left is sizing and rolling. I admit to not getting this exactly . As I understand it? one can measure the "head size", easy enough, find what the barrel likes. Then there is sizing the pellet so the head and skirt are the same. This is why I question the roll. If the skirt and head are the same size, when the pellet is launched, wouldn't the PSI against the skirt make completely sizing the skirt to the head a waste of time?

Dennis,
You do not want to size a pellets head and skirt the same. The skirt needs to be larger..... always. The idea is to have all the head sizes, and skirt sizes the same... in their relationship with each other. The skirt size most likely, but not necessarily, doesn't make the largest factor in accuracy.
Check out my Field Target Tech Channel on U Tube, Start with Episode 3 and further, might just explain it a little better.

There is some controversy on whether sizing improves accuracy. Also, there are two schools of thought on whether or not to size the skirts. There are several threads on AGN about sizing that you may want to check out.

I use a Noe push thru die for 0.25 cal JSB 25+gr pellets that sizes both the head and skirt. I get improved accuracy/consistency when I size the pellets.

2D1C,

That'll be the key. First, you need to determine the headsize your gun likes. Now, what I would recommend is that you take them right out of the tin, all brands, and see which 1 or 2 perform the best. Giving the barrel a cleaning, 2-3 patches, or a few passes with a boresnake between brands/different pellets. Take those 2 best pellets, and cull them. Weigh them, headsize them, roll them, even resize them if desired. I would do what you can, with what you have. All of those devices I've used in all my videos, do not cost more than $200 combined. Good luck, any questions give me a shout.
