I think it depends on the application. If you plan to target shoot at high magnification, lines of a reticle of a SFP scope are much thinner at those high magnification levels. Most field target competitors prefer SFP scopes because they need to focus range at high magnification. If you plan to use various magnification levels, FFP makes a lot of sense. Even long range powder burners use FFP, but they are more concerned about field of view to quickly find that 1000 yard target, so they typically keep the magnification level below 20x, and they already know the target ranges. So the answer is, it depends. What do you plan to do?

Do you plan on using a dope card or remembering hold overs for this particular rifle? If you use dope cards then sfp will be a much better choice. SFP scopes have thinner reticles when using higher magnification with the exception of a very few higher priced FFP scopes. SFP scopes reticles are also much easier to see at low magnification where FFP reticles on most are so small its hard to see in certain light conditions and back grounds. Another thing to think about is if using hold over with a FFP scope. Since the reticle grows with magnification you dont have the full reticle to use for hold over at higher power levels with most FFP scopes. If you use dope cards then FFP really does nothing for you and might even hinder you based on the examples above. For the most part it comes down to personal preference but the things I listed above can be a problem for some people depending on the type of shooting you do and the ranges you shoot at so they should be considered. I have a couple higher end FFP scopes but I like my SFP scopes more since I use dope cards for every rifle.
