Simmons Close-out Specials at Nachez Shooting Supply

The usual ill informed rubbish from you TonyR. And as usual you dont speak from any experience of the scopes under disussion.

Some of those Simmons scopes listed in the sale are more suited to .22LR (rimfire) and smaller calibre centrefires as they dont focus much below 100 yards.

One of the best Simmons scopes for 'general hunting' is/was the 1.5 White Tail Classic - made in the Phillopines. It's also perfect for Springers.

Tony - FYI. the early users of scopes used 18-20mm tubes (approx), very high magnifiction (around 35x), small diameter object lenses which they often had ground themselves. I could talk about Japan optics, and Japanese Lens makers but that's a subject for elswhere.

Can't say PowerShift, there's nothing to be worried about with the magnifcation range & it has my ideal Obj. lens size - BUT you have to check out the Focus range (ie, how close will it give you a focussed sight picture) and, always a concern with Simmons, whether it has an unusual/unsuitable reticle (they went a bit mad with Military Stylee and Triangular Framing reticles for a while).

Still leaning towards the Nikon line up there.
