Silent thunder ordnance - WINNER

Someone here recommended a silent thunder ordnance Sarissa to tame the bark of my FX dreamline. This same user claims the Sarissa was quieter than an emperor. I don’t doubt him.

With the factory Donny FL my db meter registered 106-107db which was just a bit too loud for me to be comfortable shooting in my backyard. I tried a Donny FL sumo it too was about 107-108, just a tad louder.

My Marauder by comparison registers 85db with a Tim Hill 6” moderator.

The Sarissa quieted my dreamline down to 86DB! It’s unreal how effective it is. Yes it’s big, but smaller than an emperor.

Just wanted to give praise where praise is due.

my dreamline has Ernest Rowe’s carbon fiber support on it to prevent barrel droop. Even with the big Sarissa I get virtually no poi shift.

I’d like to try the hill moderator on my dreamline. It’s by far the quietest between the 2 Donny FL’s. Just need to get an adapter

Yes. I like STO and have one of the newer versions on my 78 FPE .25 Impact. Very quiet. It’s the Falx model High Flow version.
I wish they still offered their super lightweight models like the Pilum which is a my favorite. It’s so light when you first pick up the box you feel ripped off because it feels empty...

I love the STO units myself. I have the older lightweight Pilum and a Gladiator. They really quiet things down. I am running my Gladiator at 74FPE and the Pilum at 50 or so and have thousands of rounds through them both with no problems. I really appreciate the lightweight of the carbon fiber units myself.

But there are two, here on the forum that I know of that had these moderators fail on them. I expect that may be why the aluminum moderators came out. One of the failures happened on an Impact just like mine shooting at similar FPE levels. I have no explanation for this as mine has been good for so many rounds.

Yours fits the definition of a looong gun me thinks. ;^)

I'm definitely a STO fan. I'm running a Levitas, Philum, Falx and Brevitas.

Brevitas on a fx dreamline compact, Levitas on a Impact compact, Philum on a Redwolf and the Falx on my 700mm 22 impact. But whats the large carbon fiber one? I like to run that on my 700mm 30cal. set up impact.

I missed the Sarissa. I'm going to contact STO for my place in line for the next batch.

Unsure what the results would be when shot through truly high-powered airguns, but at around 30FPE (shooting 18.13gr JSBs through a .22 Avenger at 850-875 fps) the DonnyFL Sumo outperformed the STO Falx in lower dB output levels as measured by sound meter at 25 feet away from muzzle:

Sorted Low to High by dB:
Donny Sumo: 81.0, 81.5, 81.8 = 81.43 avg
HUMA 40: 82.4, 82.7, 81.9 = 82.33 avg
Donny Tanto: 82.5, 82.4, 82.6 = 82.50 avg
STO Falx Std.: 83.3, 82.3, 82.3 = 82.63 avg
MM 1: 83.3, 83.8, 83.5 = 83.53 avg
Geo Long: 84.0, 83.3, 84.0 = 83.77 avg
0 dB 110: 84.2, 83.8, 84.6 = 84.20 avg
Rocker1: 84.6, 84.6, 84.0 = 84.40 avg
Geo Short: 84.6, 84.6, 84.8 = 84.67 avg
MM 2: 84.5, 85.2, 84.8 = 84.83 avg
Neil Clague: 85.4, 85.9, 85.8 = 85.70 avg
Wolf 35mm: 86.3, 86.1, 85.9 = 86.10 avg
TKO Slim: 87.1, 87.3, 87.5 = 87.30 avg
Wolf 30mm: 88.5, 88.3, 88.8 = 88.53 avg
Bare Barrel: 1 shot caused meter overload @104.4 dB

I found it interesting that different moderator designs and size works differently on different guns. I have cheap plastic moderators all the way to emperor and with every gun I try 3-4 different moderators and the results are inconclusive because at different power level on different guns different moderators performs differently. At the end of the day there is no replacement for displacement and longer the moderator generally works better to give the blast runway to dissipate. But this is why I have a few extra moderators so I can try and see which is quieter for that gun with that tune and configuration(shroud vs no shroud). The Sarissa sure looks like it fits the bill in both length and volume! How much does it weight, just curious to see if it’s heavier than my emperor.

Got to concur here.

Maybe the STO designs shine most with HP airguns?

After checking out all the data he posted, and given my love for N. Tesla, I took the leap and slapped a Sarissa on my .303 Red Wolf. I swapped the Emperor v3 back and forth with it, and also with my .30 Uragan, and it was indeed quieter to my ear than the very impressive but very LARGE Emperor on both. It's almost too quiet... I keep thinking the guns are malfunctioning, losing power... just hammer slap... until I hit something hard... NOPE.

Kudos to STO for design innovation and data crunching.

I'll have to look up the weights, but by feel its literally half the perceived weight of the Emperor.

EDIT : Emperor 454 grams (1 lbs), Sarissa 260 grams.

OH?????? You got my attention, maybe I'll have to give it a try! The weight is VERY reasonable, maybe he is using plastic core which is completely fine.

Go to a dollar store and pick up some scotchbrite knock off pads. They have no grit. Grit from the real scotchbrite pads can find their way into the bore. A huge No-No and there is no way to stop it as it occurs from back pressure. Additionally, in a pcp with some power, it will begin to shred rather quickly and enter the projectile path. Wrap the spring with fine micro pore ss mesh then the pad. ;)<
