Silencer swap - does it change POI?

I want to try this test soon but I wondered if anyone had already done it. I know that adding a silencer typically changes point of impact. But, if you are zeroed with a particular silencer, does changing to a different silencer change the POI. I’m betting it does because of air flow changes as the pellet exits. But - not having tested it yet....

Has anyone already tried this? What was the result?

In my experience, it does change the poi and you’ll start to see the deviances slightly increase as you go up in range. I’d imagine however, that the volume and length of the mod is going to impact how much poi change, but I can tell you I have a ronin and Donny fx in .30, and I do see a difference in poi if I zeroed with one and then switched. Maybe if you switched from one mod to another that were roughly similar in length and volume, you’ll notice less poi shift, but I only have a large and small mod to compare.

I make my own mods, different Dia, different length but all are made to the same general design . I can honestly say that there is no discernible difference ( 1 or 2 clicks maybe) in poi. Any “off the shelf mod” is very unlikely to sit perfectly true to the bore, I would suggest this has as much influence of POI as weight.

The poi on this gun does not alter one iota with or without the additional mod, the only thing that changes is the noise.

I stand by my statement “all things being equal” there shouldn’t be a poi shift.

Some powder burner suppressors are indexable to be able to tune the alteration to POI to bring it closer to unsuppressed POA.

Every single one of my guns will experience an alteration of POI with a moderator installed. No matter the type, they all have their own unique affect on harmonics and air pressure. And POI.

The gun I have that is LEAST affected has a carbon fiber sleeved Lothar Walther barrel, and a 4mm thick carbon fiber shroud that is reflexed, and tensioned.

I too have seen differences in not only poi, but group sizes. I get tighter groups with the Weihrauch over the Reflex, and tighter groups with the Neil Clague over the Hugget.

Noticed this phenomenon a while ago and that's why I have drawers of different brands and only Use the ones that don't negatively affect accuracy on any given gun and yes there are differences depending on gun and LDC combo and the best is to have one specifically made to your particular gun like AZ does. It won't matter to most other airgunners though. They don't require nor expect the accuracy that I personally expect because I am going to be making my own slugs and pellets to eliminate that last (end user) uncontrollable accuracy variable once and for all.

Hello Bucketboy, I would like to get your opinion about the most effective way to silence a shroud (6.35mm, 50-60j):

- Baffles or curlers or a combination thereof ?

- In the case of baffles: 4, 6, or more? Diameter bore?

- i would tend to place a 2cm spacer between the barrel crown and the first baffle. Do you agree?

- i would also be inclined to drill vent holes into the spacer that the crown threads into, so that the stripped air can vent into the shroud. (Dis)agree ?

My questions are aimed at (1) reducing report to the maximum extent with the least possible extra length and (2) no adverse impact on accuracy. Thanks for views!!

(For baffles I am intrigued by low cost alu oil filters shipped in via the Silk Road ...)
