What’s the deal with the ASP20? Seems to have a cult following. Whenever I say HW95, someone else says ASP20. Red

I dont have one but it better shoot pretty good and do my taxes when I'm done target practicing if it's supposed to take the hw95's place. It may be an epic shooter but I know for a fact the bluing isn't as good and a couple tooling marks are visible on the few vids I saw on youtube about it. All hw guns are works of airgun perfection. Honestly the sig looks amazing and quite powerful and the barrel lockup has me intrigued. The price point has me looking to krale and the hw 95 or 97.......let the haters come I will stick by hw

One definition of CULT..." a misplaced or excessive admiration for a particular person or thing." I wouldn't say our admiration for the Sig is misplaced. I would agree regarding the finish. It does scratch easily and I'd prefer a rich deep bluing. Mine has some welds and metal finishing that isn't like a Air Arms or HW airgun. The rifles bore is equal to any German springer and is a testament to its accuracy. Especially given its power. I don't care for the anti-beartrap feature as I have always liked the option to uncock instead of fire. I understand manufacturers do it for concerns of liability. Overall, I'd say Sigs venture into the world of magnum airguns was a hit. The HW95 has a slight edge in accuracy over the Sig. I would say that edge mostly is due to its lower power than the Sig.

I love my ASP20. The “Ruggedness” of its build Is another cool thing about it. It’s like comparing a fine wood stocked hunting rifle with a AR platform to me. (Sig is more utility) and I love it for that. Accuracy for me is as good as my 95, after some practice. Power is considerably greater and trajectory less loopy. What else can I say. Mine is in .177.

I have all Four HW an ASP .177 And .22 They all serve their purpose, BUT the ASP HITS way harder and is just as accurate, HW is Purdy and is accurate

oh yea, i get it, they are good.
I would say an appeal of the ASP20, would be the feeling that you could use it without worry, rain or shine, a everyday working gun.

There should be a difference in accuracy between a 95 and a 97 right? Therefore are we comparing the sigs accuracy to the 95 or the 97? What have average 5 shot 30 yard groups looked like?

Well the 97 is a fixed barrel and hence the inherently better accuracy. I think what I am trying to gather is the Sig Vs HW95. I am an HW fan, but I’m always surprised at the groupings of ASP20. I’ve heard a lot of bragging on the Sig’s account. I wouldn’t expect it to hold up to the 77 or 97 or TX200, but those are different types of guns altogether.

These were my 3 targets left to right while centering my scope at 30 yards. All 5 shot groups. Wasn't my best effort, but very representative. Mine is .177.
And, if you look at the target bottoms, it was raining at a decent clip at the time. The targets are under a tree and stay mostly dry.
If I do my part, it is fantastic. I know I have better targets, just not finding them now.

And this is the set up for the above shots. A wobbly bar stool to rest on, and the one rest you see for the forearm. By far, a less than ideal set up. But my asp20 can sure shoot.

I am confident with the asp20's ability. It still doesnt have quite the accuracy that I get with the HW97, but it hits much harder. And, it is more of a "tool" gun.

I recently bought a gasram Diana 340 Elite curly walnut stock. I considered the Sig BUT Diana, like HW has beautiful wood and bluing. Best of all is the T 0 6 trigger. The Sig can only go down to 2 lbs. That was a deal killer for me. Accuracy of the Diana is super and at 17 ft/lbs I .177 cal.

What pellets are those 30 yard groups? As an Oregonian... rain hasn’t ever effected my groups that I can remember, and I shoot way less power then the Sig. are those the best 3 of many or average? I’m pretty sure those are 97 sized 30 yard groups......... I’d be curious to see 40yd groups. Maybe 45.

These are NOT the best. This was when I placed a new scope on, just sighting the scope in. They are literally the first 3 targets. I kept shooting after, but didnt take any more pics that day. First group was the top target. Adjusted the windage resulting in second target down, and final adjustment for the third and bottom most target. These were sighting in, not really going for all out accuracy, but they were pretty good groups, so I snapped a pic for a coworker. I'd say those are average 30 yard groups for my sig using the H&N Barracuda match 4.5mm 10.65 grain pellet in 0.177. I've grouped out to 35 yards or so, but almost all my shooting is below 40 yards exclusively.
And, as you can see, I have no fancy set up for stability. I am either on that wobbly bar stool, an ironing board, or sticks rarely.

Agreed. Fit and finish rightfully goes to the others...and I would gladly take your gun should you decide to sell it,lol! I thought the trigger might be an issue for me too, but it absolutely feels less than 2 pounds (I know mine is above, I've tested it), and there is no creep on my trigger. Nice, easy, predictable. Doesn't seem to affect my accuracy appreciably. I know it is no t06 or rekord, but it actually is a good trigger. Not great, but very good.

Is it pellet fussy? Do most pellets shoot like that or did you do a lot of testing? Not going to lie here, those groups are so good I’m upset lol. I have to work pretty hard to get groups like that at 30 yards. Albeit less costly airguns...

I tried a TON of pellets in this gun. It seemed, for me, to shoot most pellets pretty darn welm. The pellets that it did not, they didnt even group. For example, any wad cutter in my asp can't even group at all. Like I said, it grouoed most well, and a few couldn't group. There were at least 5 different pellets that I could not tell which grouped the best. I basically tossed a coin and stuck with these.
In rrsponse to your question about my 97....yes, the groups are better. I have many times basically put pellet in pellet with that gun at 20 yards. I've put 4 out of 5 in one hole, to have the fifth one widen the group. The thing I find with my 97 is it not hold sensitive at all and the learning curve is TINY. I had to try hard to get a hold of my asp20 (and diana 48 as well for that matter). I worked for months to get good groups, and now its second nature. I had a similarly difficult time getting my diana 48 to group. Having said that, I'll sometimes hit a wall with the sig after a long shooting session where I have a tougher time grouping. I usually turn it in for the day at that point.
