Sightmark Warranty Sucks

I’ve been wanting “good” scope with higher magnification than my 6-24 Hawke Vantage scopes - which I do like. I bought a Sightmark 10-40x60 Benchrest scope on Amazon - got a very good price of $524 and I do like the scope in many ways. Even at 40x is is bright, clear and sharp. My only hesitation in keeping it is their warranty which is a limited lifetime warranty for materials, manufacturing defects, etc. Most “good” and “reputable” scope companies have unlimited lifetime warranties and the Sightmark warranty concerns me. I would welcome any thoughts and input on this.

Some people like to say "well manufacturers scopes don't need a good warranty" and I whole heartedly agree. That being said, stuff happens and I won't buy one that doesn't offer it. There are plenty of options out there that are similar in price and offer hassle free, no questions asked coverage. I'll take that every day of the week. Never had to use one so far but the peace of mind is worth having. Athlons newer Argos BTR Gen 2 10-40x56 is near your budget and focuses down to 10yds (older versions were 15yds so call and verify). Thats what I would get.

Why question a warranty that you haven't even tested yet? Those other companies that offer lifetime/no hassle are probably making so much on each scope that it is no problem for them to send you a new one for free since you most likely paid twice what the scope was worth to manufacture. There are those that argue the more forgiving the warranty, the more likely you will need it. In the end it is up to the manufacture to honor the warranty or not even if you want a new scope due to malfunction or accident.

Sightmark isn't some high end company though. They're Chinese made budget optics just like 90% of the optics in their price range. They are just as cheaply made as the rest of them. There is no reason they shouldn't have a full lifetime guarantee on them.

Since I have the option to return the Sightmark I will definitely take a look at the Athlon. Thanks for your input!
I have several Athlon and can vouch for the warranty . I bought an athlon at a gun show it was messed up so i sent it in to Kansas city and got a new one 5 days later . No receipt , no send in a registration card , Not even the org. box or papers . original price of scope $999.00

I think warranties reflect the confidence of the company in their products. I’m old enough that “Made In Japan” meant it was cheap. I’m also old enough to know that many products made in China are fine, high quality products. The Sightmark scope I’m referring to is actually made in The Philippines. I’ve gotten to the point that I will not buy anything that has an inferior warranty compared to similar products, and I won’t buy anything that cannot be returned if I am unhappy with it for any reason. I’m returning the Sightmark for that reason and I’m planning to order a similar Athlon scope.
