Do you shoot them just to kill them? Are they a pest to farmers or ranchers? Just wondering what the purpose of just shooting them is. Maybe I'm just getting old.

As I get older I found a diastases for killing any thing with out shooting it for food
Just shooting something for nothing leaves me feeling BAD
That was not a thing I had a problem with when I was younger The older I get the more this feeling came on even if they are just pest
Have other people notice this in them self?

many of the folks here are pest hunters, so no bad feelings for doing something that has to be done.

Marmots are large ground squirrels. Near civilization or agriculture, they can cause damage similar to other squirrels. Higher in the mountains, they are just cute whistlers keeping nature in balance. Context is important.

there are many cattle ranchers in the mountains of california. i sold a few young bullocks several years ago to a beef cattle rancher

I have seen cattle grazing at 6500’ in the Sierras. In fact they used to graze in Sequoia National Park in the early years. Given the choice… goodbye marmots! But I have seen marmots in scree slopes above the tree line too. They are not likely to become extinct.

I'm an 'ethical' killer. Ground Squirrels are simply future feed for vultures, destructive disease carrying little pests. the 'ethical' part, a few days back in my yard was a black tree squirrel, 10' away, no need to kill it. Had the same with a bunny awhile back, they get a bit overly aggressive trimming my lawn but there aren't many of them, they feed my hawks, so they get a pass, until their numbers get too high then, it's buzzard food time. Now that darn gopher in my lawn, next time it pops up it's head, it's going to have a heck of a headache, splitting in fact.

Just curious on why that HAS to be done? That clearly is NOT grazing area or someone’s ranch. This isn’t hunting, he didn’t cook it up so just killing for the thrill. I’ve killed more ground squirrels than I can count on permissions because they were doing serious damage which qualifies as HAS to be done. Going to nature to kills things for the thrill isn’t something that HAS to be done…..not to me at least.
Only “has to be done” about that video is making that video for AOA to get paid or at least get free stuff.
