Side shot phone vs GoPro?

I have both and the GoPro is better. The phone mount is larger and in your way. You have to be very careful that you don’t touch the phone screen while recording or it does something you don’t intend it to do. Let’s face it it’s a bit of a compromise and WAY less money

The GoPro at $1200 is expensive and not without its changes. I found it difficult to focus because it is small and when you change it from one gun to another I needed to refocus because I guess the scopes are slightly different internally .

I find all of these advanced electronic gadget challenging . Younger people may not.

I think the GoPro is better and I notice it seems to be what the big dogs use. Whether the price is justified you will have to decide

it’s an amazing little camera that’s for sure

best to set it up and not mess with it

Your resolution needs should be considered when deciding on the camera for the best functionality for your needs. The GoPro HERO 7 Black is about the best out there for the size package (but... GoPro is suspected to be preparing to release the next model in September if they follow their historic trends, so you may want to wait to see what it looks like if they do). Will you want 1080P @ 240 fps to see the pellets reasonably well in slo-mo? Does your phone do this resolution/speed combo? If you're talking strickly imaging quality, I would suspect the sensor in the Go-Pro is larger, thus generally better (larger sensor means larger individual pixel light-gathering elements, and this generally translates to better image quality). The last thing to consider, and this is where I, as a past military professional photographer, and research tech for Eastman Kodak as digital photography replaced film-based photography stand (I had a few years in Kodak's Image Simulation Laboratory in Rochester, NY), I'll take better glass lenses over a better camera almost every time. Larger lens, and better lens glass will almost always produce better image quality potential. The GoPro lens is so much more substantial then a cell phone's lens, I can't help but believe they are far superior. I just purchased a HERO 7 Black for a cruise, and used it for both above ground, and SCUBA imaging, and I have never seen anything off a phone come close to the image quality, and my wife has the new iPhone XS. Last thing to consider is viewing condition. If you'll never watch the video on anything other than a cell phone screen, it won't matter as much. If you'll be watching it on a hi-res monitor or large-screen TV, you'll see the difference for sure. Just my opinion, but I would always chose the GoPro over a cell phone for imaging if image quality was important.

I thought from your other post on this GoPro Side-Shot unit you probably had the high-end model. I liked your "buy once, cry once" comment of it never hurts to buy the best first. So wise. So true.

Which give the best quality image when recording? I know the side shot phone is base on your phone. I have the Samsung s10 plus. Would that combo with the side shot be as good as the GoPro hero7 or gopro hero7 is best and no phone can beat it. Idk since I don't own a GoPro hero7.

You don’t have to use GoPro 7. I use my GoPro 6 Hero black and and aftermarket lens. I’m pretty sure you can even use earlier versions of GoPros as well and I’d assume they can be had for cheap on eBay.

truth be told, I’m not convinced the aftermarket lens is even really needed of using a GoPro that has linear mode. Maybe if you are an “influencer” or something and wanted the best distortion-free vids but if you’re just filming for fun, I’d guess no extra lens needed, they’d still be beautiful (full disclosure, I’ve never tested that theory). I have had both and the form-factor difference is significant with the GoPro setup muuuuch better! Plus, if you use your phone while shooting to connect to other devices (chrono, kestrel etc), or to use ballistic apps etc, that becomes a juggling act.
