Side-Shot on a "Springer" Air rifel

Hello all I have recently purchased a "Side-shot" scope mount that enables you to mount your smart phone to your scope and records your shot. According to the maker it is very well made and does not interfere. From personal experience i have noted that it greatly effects my poi an my Benjamin NP2 and after paying $199 for the product concludes that it does not meet the performance that they claim on there website, facebook, and actual claims! If you own a break barrel pellet gun and are thinking about purchasing this to record your shots, do not do it! If your rifle is a break barrel style, or "springer" style air rifle than this product will greatly effect your poi, and you will feel heart broken that this product has failed you miserably! Im just being honest and don't know what this company will do for me, but i am not satisfied with the're product. Please comment or look at my videos on youtube. Just type cotey thiem pull up my profile and you will see that i had to actually zero my scope for the mount and still to this day cannot get it to work as designed!

I have a Side-Shot scope cam and I only exclusively use this product on my PCP's. Even mine shows vibration when recording in slow motion, despite the relatively "recoil-less" design of a PCP. I wouldn't recommend it for a spring air rifle due to the vibration induced by the gun and the fact that a springer is hold-sensitive. It's not the Side-Shot that's the problem, it's the spring gun you mounted the Side-Shot to. Center or rimfire rifles will behave similar to PCP's with more "recoil" noted in the recording due to their power, but of course, the Side-Shot will not affect a PCP's or center/rimfire rifle accuracy.

Don't blame the Side-Shot for the fact your springer shoots bad with it on. I'm not surprised in the least. If you were wondering if it would be a problem, I would have first contacted the manufacturer to ask the question or asked any one of us here on the forum for our recommendation.

The only recording device that I've seen even marginally usable on a springer is the ATN Shot-Trak 5x zoom recording device that still vibrates terribly and requires mounting to the scope but does not record through the scope. Even that is very limited in use. I'd just forget about recording through the scope when using a springer. It's just not worth the hassle.

NoLandBeyond is exactly right. It would be fine for pcp or rimfires etc. Maybe even centrefires. But spring guns by their nature are extremely hold and balance sensitive. I Learnt this a while ago with my weihrach HW77K. Had it shooting perfectly and consistently shot after shot. I then was getting ready for a night shoot for pigeons and mounted my hunting torch on top of the scope. At the last minute I thought I would just check my zero again and WOW! It was now shooting approx. 3 inches low at 30 yards! Any change in weight will make a big difference in point of impact on a springer, due to the momentum and harmonics of the whole firearm. It needs to do its own thing under its own weight to be repeatable. In saying that, if you zero it with the sideshot mounted then it should be fine to use as long as you keep the sideshot mounted for all shots.

Thank you folks for your insight. I contacted the folks at side-shot and are willing to refund my money on the product if i pay for shipping. But the good part about this is that i offered to create a video of me shooting a group at 30 yards without the side-shot mounted, then put the side shot on on record my grouping then.Stinkajames i believe your right about keeping it mounted it will hold zero with the phone on it. I will try this today and see how it works out. If i have to sight in my gun with it on no big deal because i have zero setting lockable turrets on my scope to hold the true zero. I actually get a pretty good picture out of it even when shooting it! I dont want to send it back if i can still use it for hunting, just kinda frustrated that i need 2 zeros.But ill let you know about todays events after giving it all a try. Again thank you everyone for your insight on this issue.BTW before i bought it i did ask side-shot on facebook if it would be good on a magnum spring and they said it would work. So im merely trying to just show them with all due respect that it would not work on a springer air rifle.
