Sick Trash Panda

This one should not have been out at this time of day to start. Then it did not run when I got within 10 yards of it.
Had a strange staggering walk also. I put it down with the Dreamline Lite .30 with NSA slugs.
It was walking around the neighbors house and She came and asked me to take it out.

Not foaming at the mouth, but that doesn't always rule out rabies. Could be distemper, or he was really hung over and on his walk of shame home!

I would think about calling local wildlife officers and hand over the carcass for testing.
That coon was ill without a doubt

Male or female? Gravid females are out and about this time of year and sometimes they get kind of friendly when they are looking for a nest.

Chest shots and call the game department. Rabid most likely, though, as others noted, could be distemper or something else.

I just always suspect coons of being rabid if they're not acting right. They love to fight..

Good shooting...did that one a favor. Around here the likelihood of distemper is very high. Appearance of drunkeness and staggering around in the daytime is a fair indicator.

Don't know or care what pronoun that Bandit was. Fact is it came near our homes in broad day light, all drunk walking, and no instinct to run.
Even at the darkest of night? That's a death sentence around here. We have a No Trash Panda policy.

The raccoons around here often have distemper. They look like they have a bad cold -- nose leaking like a faucet. Out exploring during unusual hours.
