Shroud Question?

Looking for some info. I’m curious if there is any data that defines the ideal distance from the end of the barrel to the first baffle, aka washer, aka hard stop in a moderator or shroud. What I would call the first chamber. I don’t know how else to define what I’m asking and hope you fine folks will know what I am getting at.

From what I’ve seen. Most decent airgun moderators don’t have a row of baffles. Rather they have a larger muffled chamber.

My Taipan Vet has about 1/8” clearance between the end of the barrel and the first baffle cone. Adding to Corny’s list the STO Falx uses a more open body without individual baffles.

Sounds like my SPA P35 is somewhat like the Taipan. It has an aluminum attachment that screws onto the end of the barrel with an O-ring to help align the shroud. The aluminum attachment has large holes and is shaped roughly in the reverse shape of the thin aluminum baffles. So the first baffle ends up very close to the end of the barrel. It comes with 7 baffles but is quieter with 3 or 4 separated by pieces of hair curler wrapped in felt. It seems to me that putting the first baffle there has an "air stripper" effect which may help pellet stability. I mistakenly put the baffles backward with the open side towards the end of the muzzle once and the gun was noticably nosier.
