........... Show US UR GLASS .............Preferred Scopes!

For my preferred hunting . I.E. Walking enjoying nature off hand shots and braced tree shots with less than 7 Lb... total weight PCP. I do Not require Mil Dots, but rather 4 post Cross Hair. The Post giving plenty of elev and wind at EFR close range..... most shots are @ approx 75 yards and shorter.

Fixed Focal Plane European Glass is most probably the Clearest & Brightest image!

For this generally short range I prefer approx 6X. Occasionally Dialed down to 3.5 for Jack Rabbits on the run and enhanced field of view!

To accomplish the best trade-offs IMO (Still Very very clear Image with Lots of light/50 mm)

“Old School ” Fine Cross Hair “ set at 6X & 3.5 X W / 50 MM Light gathering IMO this scope rivals Many fixed European glass.

My Scope of Choice:

  • * “ Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x50mm A.O. Rifle Scope ~EFR “ *.....*Note: .....**.BIGGEST BONUS *Lite Weight* @ 14 OZ Less than Half the wt. of most Mil Dot stuff! ..........Makes your gun so Very Lite weight....hard to do with quality optics.

Is that a Beeman R1 it is on..........looks like the light gathering end of tube is small? does it do ok with light

The light gathering end of a scope is called the objective. Scopes with high quality glass do not need giant objectives. That’s why a lot of Chinese crappers come with giant objectives, it’s to gather as much light as possible for the subpar glass. Never needed a 50mm on my Sightrons or Leupolds, but all my stuff stamped China sure needs all the help they can get.

Dairyboy:

I clearly appreciate your preference to shooting and all of us enjoy our individual style. Apparently, you do Not Need a lighter shooting platform. For me however, I find setting up a tripod sitting and waiting for a target Boring! I find it would be a bit overwhelming carrying a massive tripod with a Heavy gun 5 to 10 miles while walking through a beautiful forest lined with streams and the sounds of nature.

Your set up like many others in addition to using the hood of their truck for stability would rain supreme in a farm environment. My writing was simply focused on those that wish the comfort, hi power/ traj. and lightest platform of a FX M3 Compact and a light weight scope while enjoying the beauty of mother nature.

I concur your Midas Tac 4-16x44 is a Nice scope......You say light weight however @ almost 24oz/ 10 oz heavier, Ouch! The above Leopold I showed weighs in at a mere 14 oz, No Contest! Some suggest a larger Objective lens is not important, even boarding / overkill. For me, I have found at twilight in a forest I can never get enough light on target. I have been enjoying this fine sport for Many moons. I do not Need a small compact quality platform, however, I surely appreciate the new technology and even Old Scope Nostalgia that have refined the various aspects this great sport offers all of us!

I've got some oddball scopes. But I honestly like every one I own, lest I wouldnt. All the ones I'm listing do all get used for hunting. I've got more I'm leaving out that either dont get used, or do seldom. Or just not for hunting.

You'll also notice both of my full size pcp rifles have VERY light barrels, so I actually can run a behemoth of a scope on the FX at least, and still have no issues with long range off-hand shots. But I did opt for a smaller scope anyhow. Though, I do believe it may still be 22oz.

This is my favorite because of very high quality. The finish is just so much better than anything nowadays. And the focus + clarity are on point. It's a vintage 1.5-4x burris EER pistol scope.

This one is an ohhunt 1.75-10x24mm I replaced a 4-14x44 scope with this, and the smaller front objective really made a huge shift (in a good way) to the gun's balance.

3-12x24 mtc viper connect. Another rear heavy scope with absolutely zero eye relief. Having so much weight rearward may be akin in feel to simply having a red dot sight on the gun. The clarity fades very quickly the more you zoom in on this one. (8x it becomes slightly noticeable..... clarity dropoff from 10 to 12x mag is extreme!) But it does have nice featues otherwise.

This is actually a Nikon shotgun scope. But has a fine reticle, and very clear image. 3-9x44mm sfp, duplex reticle

Fairly light and conservative for all it's features. 4-14x44mm primary arms ffp side focus, r-grid reticle

Another budget scope that actually came with one of my guns, and I just can't bring myself to part with it because it works very well, and has a very clear image. 3-12x44mm center point sfp side focus, ballistic reticle

Lastly we have a lowly $20 scope, lol. A center point 2x EER scope that I got on sale a year or two back. Again, very clear, no issues with function, and the gun it resides on actually produces a lot of shock. Enought to work the scope mount loose repeatedly, anyhow. (heavy hammer spring, .25 cal, 28fpe)

I have several different scopes on guns that are definitely not my bench guns. The first pic is with my Cometa BP mini. It has a Discovery 3-12. It’s a decent scope. The FX Dreamtac below it has a Discovery 4-16. It’s a decent scope also. Ignore the RTI below the FX. Its a a heavy Athlon FFP scope that would be a nightmare for still hunting. My favorite cruising around, not afraid to bang it scope is the one on my Leshiy in the next pic. It’s a Bushnell AR 3-12. It has crosshairs and 2 dots below it. The scope is very bright and I know the distance each one of those dots are for on 12x. The Discoveries and the Bushnell have the same size objectives. The Bushnell is way brighter.
