I have a spot for ground squirrels and they are my favorite. In my parts the season runs roughly from March through maybe early June then they disappear down into their burrows during the rest of the year.
My favorite spot is a small patch of desert at the end of a country road. Fence makes a large section of it look private.
Quick check on OnX shows it to be BLM ground. Hop the fence, short hike over the low ridge and acres and acres are at my disposal. With my air guns their is no report to tip off my location or activity in my honey hole

My long front porch and on past my garage drive giving me almost 20 yards. Also have a shoot shack with greater range, however I’m more happy using my porch range. Charles

Yours looks a lot neater than mine. I need to do some cleanup before it warms up and the ticks come back out.It don't get better then that ..

Maybe it's because of the lack of vegetation, but I don't have any issues with them in the winter here.

My most favorite places are in past, one cleared and put to the plow. Sigh.
These days just shoot targets at home. My nicest spot is along side the house for 10-meter shooting. Sheltered from wind between house and 80-foot granite ridge and capped at end by the wood shed. Longer distances out to 50+ yards are in the open
