Shoutout to Game Hunters

I have modified my 30 cal Jkhan from being a pellet shooter (100 fpe) to being a slug slinger (150fpe).

My NOE 300-68 FN mould allows one to cast HP, FN and CN(cone nose).

I plan to shoot an Impale Ram (size of deer doe) in the near future. The farmer has said if I want to take a double lung shot, the slug must exit.

Question, will a 70 gr FN @ 980 fps exit on this size animal been shot at 35 m and assuming largest bone will be a rib.

Is there a true representative test one could undertake while being in lockdown, to determine if one has enough gun?

Hi Jheikkila

The Jkhan model is a N400, many thanks for the suggestion of Jim’s video some great information.

What I have found on Evanix Rainstorm 357 cal is that they shoot 81 gr pellets at 800 fps. If we assume Jim was using a standard air rifle 115 fpe it sent the pellet through the shoulders of the springbok at 70m.

I found some info on Penetration index = ( kinetic energy / Bullet frontal area) x Sectional density. When I crunch the numbers for the 357 and 30 cal I get a valve of 45 for the Evanix and 61 for the Jkhan, a difference of 35%.
