Evening everyone,
I went back to CMP this morning for another match and apparently learned enough to have some new questions. Once again everyone there was friendly as could be and very helpful. Two things I noticed this time were that about half the competitors were women in their mid teens/early 20’s. Very different from long range matches I’ve shot in the past but I was glad to see it. I also noticed nearly everyone was wearing a shooting suit but today I realized they were wearing the same shoes. Who knew? Although I have spent some time practicing and my groups are improving I was still nowhere near the group sizes of the other competitors and i’m wondering if part of the problem actually is my rifle. It’s a Beeman 2078A. It weighs about 8 pounds and the book says it shoots about 500fps. Peep sights. I know my old tired self is not going to hold the rifle as steady as the younger crowd but I wonder if the balance on mine is causing part of the problem. It doesn’t feel front heavy and is solid but I wonder if those other comp guns balance better? I didn’t ask to try one but I did get some good information on suppliers of these guns and also that very competitive rifles can be bought for a lot less than the $4k I was expecting, anywhere from about $1-2k easily and that’s for a new one, not a used price. i may have to give this some serious thought after Christmas.
