Shot a Nat50 card with .177 at night

Just playing around tonight. Got an order of pellets in and was trying some 33.95 gr 22 cal in the ol' Huben. It shot them ok but not quite as good as the 25.39 grain.

After I got through playing around, I shot a 10 shot group with the 25.39 grain at 40 yds and it looked decent for a semi-auto. Take out a couple of outliers and had eight shots packed pretty tight.

I picked up my first tin of the Daystate Rangemasters in 13.4 gr .177, so decided to see how it did with 10 shots at 40 yds compared to the hot shooting Huben. Just had that one group with the Huben on that card. The rest was sighting in the Thomas for 40yds and shooting groups. After the sweet group at kz#11 , I decided to whip out a 50 yd Nat50 card and try my luck.

Started out great, then not sure what happened? It was dark and didn't have any wind flags out. Scored a 230 with 5x's using Mike's 0.35 score plug

Then went for a 25 meter card scored a 238 w/4 x's using the .224 score plug ...all shot at night with no flags

Hi Jimmy,

Your 20 fpe gun is going to drift about 1/3” per mph of wind at 50y. A 1 mph wind may not even turn your flag vanes and you can’t feel it. You would see movement on the flag tails, but it’s tough sometimes to tell which direction because they just kind of quiver. Perceived calm is tough to shoot well in....especially with no flags.

Given the choice...I would never select calm to shoot BR in. Lots of vertical surprises in store at some places.

Better the devil you know, than the devil you don’t. 😀.

The upside is that if you were shooting FT, you would have knocked all the targets down.

Look forward to your target shooting Dave.

Mike, I was happy with it at the 50 yd mark. That was my first time trying it. I'll probably send you the gun this fall and let you go through it and maybe spiff it up a bit. I would like to get it to shoot the 16.2 grain up around 27 to 28 fpe? And try that at the 50 mark?

I'm sure it's ready for some seal replacements, maybe reg rebuild or replace etc. I've had it 5 years now and put way over 10,000 pellets through it, maybe 15,000?

The simplified rule for pellets or bullets that will contact the scoring box line with the appropriate plug is that the touching hole does not count and can shot again.

On box 4....it appears that you would have touched the box with the plug...so that hole does not count. Leaving it resulted in a zero.

If in question....it is always best to shoot again.

Nice shooting! I just ordered the targets and plugs from the N50 guys. Soon I’ll get to be humbled lol! Can’t wait to try it.

Dave

You won’t regret getting the NAT 50 cards. For whatever reason, I like having the official 11 X 17” cards vs. printing 8 X11” NAT 50 cards. The scoring plugs really help you out also. It’s a blast and we’ll post cards and be humbled together.
