First Post I have a Crossman Fury NP and was thinking about cutting a few inches off the barrel and recrowning and threading it has anyone tried this how much can you cut off and does it effect accuracy

Likely the gun is choked and you will be cutting off the choke so it will effect accuracy in a negative way on most pellets.

Push a pellet thru and see if there is resistance at the end of the barrel.
I prefer un-choked barrels. But the ones that have them, have them for a reason

Easy way is as Long_Gun says. Use a cleaning rod or wooden dowel to push a pellet through and if it gets tighter near the muzzle end then it is choked. If not it is not. Otherwise like marflow says call Crosman they will tell you.

So I called Crossman they could not answer the question of weather or not it was choked or not. I pushed a pellet through the Barrel and felt no resistance so I'm guessing it's not choked. I know I would lose FPS but do you think I would lose Accuracy if I cut, crowned and threaded the Barrel

FYI...Just pushing a rod with a patch you'll feel the resistance towards the end of the barrel if it's choked. No need to push a pellet through.

You won’t lose FPS. PCP’s, CO2’s and pumps do but springer/gas ram guns don’t. I shortened a couple barrels on brake barrel guns and the loss of velocity was almost not noticeable. Accuracy won’t be effected unless you mess up cutting your crown square with the bore.

Vetmx Thanks for your reply can you tell me how short you've cut the barrels down my intentions are to cut it down and add a suppressor but i'm not sure how short I can cut it down

I didn’t go shorter than 12-13 inches. I will see one of the guns later today because it’s my buddies garage gun. I will measure it.

Ok Thanks I was thinking of 14"or 15" My only real concern is accuracy it's very accurate right now but the rifle is just to damn long and if I add a 6" suppressor it's super long

14 or 15” will be fine. Your cut and crown job will determine your accuracy. So could the 6” suppressor. Unless you already tested it.

Barrel length is for maintaining higher velocity not accuracy. Underlevers like TX200, LGU and HW97K have short barrels 9-10 inches. Many bench rest (PCP, centerfire and rimfire) rifles have shorter thicker barrels because they are stiffer than longer ones. Also a shorter barrel allows the projectile to leave the barrel sooner than a longer one. This helps when you shoot offhand, kneeling and sitting positions. Barrel length does not matter when you only shoot on the bench. For break barrels, a longer barrel allows more leverage (easier) to cock the rifle.

I had this happen. I sent the rifle to Mac 1 and even after a professional recrown the accuracy was never the same.
