Shooting the red wolf at 187 in Challenging conditions (average every day winds)

I shot these this morning after the wind picked up. I was trying different slugs to see how they would do. Obviously no magic groups here, However I think I am becoming inured to the fact that I’m shooting at such a long range.

I spent an entire summer trying to shoot at 200 yards with air guns back 10 years ago. It was almost impossible. Groups like these would’ve had me dancing in the streets.

I had to build a bridge with a 40 foot span just to get across the creek.

My methods are pretty rough right now with the lack of a target stand. It’s basically a piece of cardboard nailed to a small maple on a very steep hill.

During average every day conditions, it is tough to keep the slugs in an 8 x 11 sheet of paper.

I’d say those are pretty nice groups for 187 yards in the wind. I would be proud to share those targets. I was practicing with .22 slugs at 200 yards. If I shot very early in the morning before there was any wind at all I could keep most all my shots on a large soup can. Once the wind started just a little I moved to a 10” circular saw blade as a gong and could keep most shots on target. Soon though as the wind increased and began changing direction it was a challenge to even hit that gong more than one or two shots in a row. I would get a few shots on target and the next one would be 10” to the right or left.
