Back at farm Z to shoot some starlings in the wind. Challenging as it was nearly impossible to guess how the wind was going to be shooting starlings between two concrete banks. I held for wind and would hit and miss, same as with no hold. Pretty much a 50/50 chance of hitting the target consistently.

But still a fun day of shooting.

Enjoy.

@Crosman999. I tried to do follow up shots whenever possible. You are right, that ratio is not good enough. But My comment about this 50/50 wasn't about my shooting statistic of hitting and missing half of my shots. It is referring to reading the windage as in a 50/50 chance of getting it right. To be honest, I either hit them or missed them completely. And yes occasionally I clipped them and if possible I always do a follow up shot. Thanks for your comment.

From my experience, if you clip them with a non-pristine shot but end up taking flight. If the legs are dangling instead of being tucked up for flight, the starlings expire shortly after landing usually not too far away. Also if they fly off making the distress call, more starlings try flying to the rescue. A Library of Ornithology has recordings of these calls, so you can become familiar with these smart corvids and their discussions. Just to be clear, I go for chest shots with a .25 caliber, Crow magnums are a devastating pellet and over 70% of the time Starlings are DRT when hit. The other 30% go no further than 40 yards or less. We won't discuss the times I get 'skunked' , cause then I give up for an hour or so and wait for them to get comfy again. Then its on again. MAX 115 is way better shot than I, all I know is I really enjoy his videos.

@markT. Lol, I don't need caffeine to jack me up.

@Swing360. ya unfortunately we don't get calm days all the time around here. I try my best to hit my target rather than miss.

@Blankshot17. Thank you for the input. I am just an average "Joe" unlike some sharp shooters out there who wouldn't miss, ever, lol. I practice a lot and my success rate is often higher than my misses. As I mentioned previously, when I missed it was mainly due to wrong guess with the wind direction at the moment of engaging the trigger. But there were times when my adrenaline got the best of me especially when it comes to crows or coyotes shooting. Yes I have much to learn. But what better way than to get out there and shot away.

Thank you all for watching and supporting my channel. Cheers.
