After taking a few practice shots after mounting the scope, I discovered the 392 was shooting about 5" low at 5 yards (5 pumps). I got a few recommendations to shim the scope and try again. It was suggested to use strips of a pop can - one person recommended two strips or just over .5 mm. I decided that with my luck, I would slice my fingers open using the aluminum, so I cut open an empty plastic milk jug and cut a strip, then doubled it, making a shim roughly .5 mm (maybe slightly more). It slid in easily and the ring screws tightened down just fine.
Now for the bad news ... I can't shoot in the backyard anymore because of the residential/commercial monstrosity ...er complex they eradicated my nice empty field with, and the wife decided to show her irritation at me buying the rifle by telling me she doesn't want me shooting in the house - not even our unfinished basement. So now the only place I have to shoot is my dad's house. I ENJOY shooting with my dad, so going to his house is no hardship AND it's on my way home from work, so I can just swing by in the morning and shoot to my heart's content.
So I that means I won't know until tomorrow if shimming the scope worked. I'll be sure to post my results.
