🌳Sherwood Airgunners Match Report for February 5, 2023 25yd Indoor Benchrest Match

Sherwood Airgunners 25yd Indoor Bench Rest Match report for February 5, 2023

We had our 3rd Bench Rest Match of the year February 5, 2023 with 20 competitors shooting at our indoor range. Before we get into the match details I would like to give a big thankyou to two of our members that stepped up and helped make this match go very smoothly. Jerry McCombs did the cooking at the match because Carl Lucas who normally does this was feeling under the weather. Everything was great Jerry we appreciate you filling in. Also a big thankyou to Mick Brown who was my right hand man and did whatever duties I needed him to do at the match. Mick was a huge help to me while I was busy scoring the cards and trying to keep up with whatever else needed to be done. While we're at it let me also thank Tom West and Dave Campbell for also making this another successful well run match!

Now that we got that out of the way let's get to the fun part…shooting! In Heavy Varmint we had 11 shooters competing in our most popular class. Eric Jones shot a 3 card score of 737 with 33xs for 3rd place. For 1st and 2nd place we had a tie that was decided by X count. Shooting at Sherwood for the very first time but shooting like a seasoned vet was Jeff Richards who tied Jeff Swartz who's always on the top of the leader board. Both shot a 3 card score of 746. Going to the X count to decide the match Jeff Richards had 37x's and Jeff Swartz got the win with 41x's. Congrads to both of you on some very fine shooting. This was Jeff Richards first match and he went at it like he's been doing this for years…I was very impressed!

In Light Varmint we had 2 competitors Phil McKinney and Eric Jones use my loaner rifle which is a RAW BR500 and both shot very well with it. Eric shot exceptional with a 3 card score of 745/45x's which was good enough for first place! Eric also shot his very first 250 card with a great X count of 18! Congratulations Eric on the win and 250 card! After seeing some competitors have troubles with rifles I will try to remember to bring one of my rifles to the match as a loaner if someone has a problem and or if we have an open lane and someone wants to shoot a 12ft lb light varmint match.

Al Duster easily topped the field in Spring Piston class as he kept his world class shooting up with a 3 card score of 737/32x's! It's been a pleasure seeing Al chase the United States Air Rifle Benchrest spring piston records. Last month Al shot the 3rd highest USARB 25yd indoor Bench rest spring piston match ever! Great shooting Al keep it up brother!

Finally in youth division we had 2 siblings shooting it out both using their fathers Daystate Redwolf shooting Heavy Varmint. This time Cameron beat his brother Connor for the win with a 3 card score of 688/14x's.

As always I want to thank everyone that continues to support Sherwood Airgunners it's a pleasure to put on these matches and see fellow airgunners enjoy our facility and enjoy shooting.

I will have a updated King of Sherwood awards scoring out some time tomorrow. Also for our last match in March I plan on cooking a pasta dinner to end up our indoor bench rest season. Pasta, meatballs,Italian bread and salad may be worth your trip to Sherwood next month for some shooting and a good meal not to mention the great comradarie we have at the club.

If you don't mind would you check with participants as to whether we could
