Sherwood Airgunners Bench Rest Match Report January 8, 2023
Sherwood Airgunners had their second of 4 indoor 25yd Bench Rest Match Sunday January 8,2023. We had a total of 24 shooters come out and shoot at our indoor facility. It was nice to see some new faces share the lanes with us. Ed O'Connell,Frank Rose and Russ Jackson were first time Bench Rest shooters at today's match. I sincerely hope they felt welcome and liked the atmosphere the rest of us enjoy at Sherwood. We certainly try to help new guys out as much as we possibly can.
Another great thing to see was our youth shooters Cameron and Connor McKinney the enthusiasm and sportsmanship they showed while at the match. I can see they really enjoyed shooting and spending the day with the rest of us at the match.
Of the 24 shooters 16 of them competed in Heavy Varmint with Jeff Swartz again taking top honors with a 3 card set of 250/15x..248/16x..250/20x for a 748/51x….excellent shooting Jeff! In 2nd place Rick Smelko shot a 3 card total of 744/31x and in 3rd was Carl Lucas with a 741/31x.
In Light Varmint we only had 2 shooters with Jeff Swartz again at the top of the podium. Jeff shot a 3 card total of 744/33x. Obviously Jeff is no stranger to shooting Bench Rest and has this game figured out. Congrads Jeff on your continued great shooting!
In Spring Piston Al Duster not only got 1st place with his 3 card score of 244/10x…244/4x…249/11x for a 737/25x…I also believe that this is the 3rd highest United States airgun 25yd bench rest piston score ever recorded. His 3 cards were sent in to the proper organization to be scored once more so we will keep our fingers crossed that this score will hold up and Al will be in the record books! In 2nd place Jeff Swartz shot a 710/18x count.
In our youth division we had 2 brothers battle it out with Connor McKinney besting his brother Cameron with a 730/25x. Great shooting Conner and thanks Phillip for bringing your son's to our match!
I want to give a special thanks to Eric Anderson who let Frank Rose you his rifle to shoot the match. Frank did not have the proper full probe to fill his gun and would not have been able to shoot the match if it wasn't for Eric stepping up and letting him use his rifle. This is the kind of sportsmanship and comradarie I love to see at airgunning events. Everyone is out to help each other become the best shooter they can be. Finally I want to thank my guys at Sherwood that helped with the match…Dave Campbell who does whatever needs to be done, Carl Lucas for being the cook once again and Tom West for taking care of registration. It's truly a team effort at Sherwood and I believe everyone had a great day shooting at the match. As always thank you for all the shooters that came out and shot the match!
Sincerely,
KeithWalters
