Sherwood Airgunners had their first field target match of the season May 4, 2025. With a very wet week before the match things weren't looking to good for Sunday. With rain on Saturday while setting up and rain all night just hrs before the match I thought for sure the 15 die hards that would show up would be getting wet. The FT gods stepped in and gave us a good 5 hrs or so of clear skies and calm winds to get this match in. The course was wet but the newly laid wood chips made it very comfortable and not muddy while shooting the Highlands course.
Conditions were overcast and mostly cloudy with just a little wind to make you think about holdover on some longer targets. Some newly placed high elevated targets were particularly challenging on this course along with plenty of targets at or near there maximum kz distance. Another lane was added to the field for a total of 6 lanes there which made for a particular challenging stretch of targets. The Troyer rating was a 33.4 for this match.
I'd like to welcome a new shooter Chad Bartlett to the FT community. Chad shot his first match ever and did very well shooting a 35/60 with his new RAW TM1000 and Sightron S3 10-50x scope. I have a feeling this guy will do very well in a short time and I'm looking forward to seeing his progress.
There were a few divisions where we only had one shooter but I noticed they did very well, must be the lack of competition and no pressure
. Al Duster the piston bench rest guru shot a personal best 46/60 in Hunter Piston. Great shooting Al and congratulations! Brandon Michaud who just started shooting Open PCP shot I believe his personal best 50/60 in that class. I won't be surprised when Brandon is shooting mid 50’s scores in the near future.
In WFTF PCP we had 4 shooters all with solid scores but yours truly Keith Walters edged out the reigning national champ Tyler Patner but 1 shot with a 55/60.(In my mind I crushed him and can't wait to put it on him again)
We had 8 shooters in Hunter PCP. It didn't take long for Justin Roberts to find himself back on the podium after a year hiatus with some health issues. Glad to have you back Justin and keep up the good shooting! Justin took 3rd with a 51/60. Jeff Swartz and Doug Cunningham tied for top honors both with a 52/60. The match director decided the winner would be decided on whoever did the best on positional lanes. Doug ended up being a shot better and took win. Nice shooting guys!
Hotdogs and hamburgers with chips and potato salad was served and was a great ending of the day. Big thanks to Jerry McCombs and Matt Muse for helping in the kitchen. Lastly thankyou for the 15 shooters that came out, I hope it benefits you at our Sherwood Forest AAFTA GP in a few weeks!
Sincerely
