Sherwood Airgunners 25yd indoor Benchrest Match report for March 12,2023

Sherwood Airgunners 25yd indoor Benchrest Match report for March 12,2023

For our last Benchrest Match of the winter season we had 21 shooters join us at Sherwood Airgunners. We had 2 brothers Connor and Cameron McKinney shoot the Youth class, 4 participants in Spring Piston, 1 shooter in Light Varmint and 14 competitors in Heavy Varmint.

Frank Rose who is from nearby Toronto,Ohio used my Rapid Air Weapons BM 1000 in Light Varmint. Frank showed us that he's capable of some very good scores shooting 246/7x…244/9x…248/9x = 738/25x. Very good shooting for someone shooting a loaned rifle for the first time. Hope to see you decide on a rifle and see you at more Benchrest and Field Target matches in the near future.

In Youth division Connor and Cameron also used the same rifle my RAW BM 1000 because of a broken battery lead on their fathers Daystate Redwolf. Luckily Phil got a hold of me and we were able to set his son's up and himself up with loaner rifles for the match. Connor topped his younger brother for the win with some very good scores of 248/7x…243/7x…242/7x = 738/25x. Nice shooting young man!

Al Duster continued to top the competition in Spring Piston. After replacing a breach seal Al went on to show us how to shoot a spring gun posting scores of 247/9x…243/8x…246/8x = 736/25x. That's only 2 shots from tieing his 3rd place finish in the USARB record book. I'm sure the stars will align in the future for some more records from Al. Nice to see a world class shooter sharing the lanes with us at Sherwood!

Lastly in the very popular 20ft lb Heavy Varmint PCP division, Eric Jones and newcomer Jeff Richards tied with a 740 accumulative score. By means of X count, Jeff took second place with 36X's to Eric's 33X's for 3rd. Congratulations to Jeff for his first 250 card and a very nice X count on that card of 17! Jeff Swartz once again showed he is the man to beat in Heavy Varmint posting some very impressive scores and X count. Jeff shot a 250/18x…249/12x…248/16x = 747/46x. Very good shooting Jeff.. congratulations and thankyou for the support.

So for this last match we wanted to do something different than our hotdogs and hamburger meals so I made my homemade pasta sauce with spaghetti and meatballs along with Italian bread and salad. To say this was a hit was a understatement. I got numerous compliments on the meal and was glad everyone enjoyed it.

When the match was over I tallied the overall scores of our 4 matches for our KING OF SHERWOOD 👑 awards which were presented to the overall winners of each category. I can't tell you how many people also complimented me on the awards on how good they looked. Although I designed them, all the credit really goes to Eric Ohlin a airgunning friend who made it happen with his cnc laser engraver. Eric did his thing and these awards came out fantastic! So the King of Sherwood bragging rights for Benchrest went out to the following shooters. Connor McKinney YOUTH…Al Duster SPRING PISTON…and going home with 2 crowns was Jeff Swartz in LIGHT VARMINT and HEAVY VARMINT!

In wrapping this up I want to thank everyone who participated in our matches and we hope things were run as professionally as possible. My goal will always be to do things the the best way for the club and it's participants. I also want to welcome the new shooters that shot at Sherwood for the first time…we hope your experience was a good one and we are definitely here to help you in anyway that we can. And for my crew at Sherwood a big THANKYOU, I appreciate all the help and we will continue to get it done in the future! Sherwood will be hosting 7 Field Targets events in 2023 and hope to see everyone share the lanes with us. It's going to be a great year for FT here in Ohio.

Sincerely
Match Director
