Scott Carbon fiber tank LEAK

I got a large (size of my great white ) Scott tank, I fill it up to 4500 psi from my Shelden compressor it leaks down to about 3000 psi in four weeks,,,Not sure what kind of gauge is on it it says Scott on the top,,, I rapped the top rubbers I kid you not Condoms , I put about five of them on it to cover all the area.I did not see any air leak in a week, 

I tried spray bottle soap and I see no bubbles ,, Its got to be the gauges , 

Whats the brain tank have to say,,,,,,

It's most likely to be the large o-ring that seals the valve to the tank. If it isn't on tight enough or if it has a defect it will leak at the junction of the tank to the valve. Mine leaked there and just needed to be snugged a bit. Unfortunately, you can't tighten it further unless you completely empty the tank. Air pressure in the tank won't allow it to be turned in either direction. Use the soapy water to test this area for a leak.

I bought a used Scott that had the same problem. I got a new valve from Pyramyd which solved the problem. Easier to use now too!

It sounds like a pretty slow leak. It is possible that it may have leaked down to lower pressure and stopped. I would turn it upside down and submerge the whole valve and tank neck in a tub of water. If you don't see any bubbles, top it up again and repeat the process. I doubt that the gauge is leaking. It is more likely to be an O-ring in the valve itself, not the one in the neck especially if it has not been removed recently. It may also be leaking from the burst disc but unlikely unless it has been removed lately as well.

I would caution against submerging the valve under water. There is a high probability that you'll get water inside the gauge through the vent hole which will fog up the insides, possibly forever. Soapy water and a toothbrush works just as well to find leak points without risking a ruined gauge.

I am going to look around if I can find a gauge at a decent price I am just going to replace it,

I would tape up the vent hole before dunking that tank in a bath tub.

I had that happen on my Great White. It turned out to be leaking around the threads on the gauge that reads the tank pressure. Tightened it up and stopped leaking. At first I thought I was using a lot of air, until the leak got bad enough to find it with soap water. Blacky White,out?

Same problem here -- turns out the fitting for the burst disk was not tight.

Was wondering why I didn't get the re-fills/bottle I expected - but shot so frequently I didn't notice the leak.

Only realized it once I went away for 2 weeks and returned to a low bottle.



The vendor - of course - was trying to tell me I managed to burst the burst disk, but I knew that was BS. Disk was fine, just not tightened down.
