I went to a local gun show and made an offer of 300$ cash on a new athlon Argos 8x35x56 and got to take her home.:)
i almost pulled the trigger on a swfa several times but I wanted to get my hands on one first to make sure that's what I wanted.The gun show had several types of scopes there of which I was very tempted by but the Argos price was just too good to pass up.
I can't wait to get her all mounted up and sitting pretty on my bullboss.
I'll be going to another soon I hope as I was able to get the price down on a vortex diamond back tatical 4x12 x44 to 250$ cash out the door but man 300$ out the door on the Argos btr was just to sweet to pass up this time.
I'll post thoughts on it in a week or 2.

Gotta say loving it so far.I can easily focus to 20x to 24x power but after that it does get difficult for me to find a comfortable eye relief any higher.The glass is very nice for my investment of 300$ .My only actual complaint is that I cannot see the Illuminatied reticle even on high power outside in the sun but then again I am very colorblind.:) My wife says she can see it just fine! LoL
I wonder if it's possible for athlon to install a blue one for me? anyways I'm really enjoying it especially being able to see great at 20x.

 
I picked up the same scope in the past month (Athlon Argos 8-34X56 BTR with APMR reticle). My Opinions are similar to yours. The eye box is very hard to find and hold beyond 20X magnification (what you called eye relief). For this reason, my scope lives at 10X most of the time. I have normal color vision, but the illumination on the reticle is not visible in full Sun viewing of paper targets. But then, the purpose of an illuminated reticle is for working under poor illumination. On the example I have, the numbers on the side focus do not relate to the actual distance from target. This makes the side focus numbers unusable as a poor-man's range finder. If a larger side wheel is purchased, it will have corrected values put on it. As a reference, my BSA (6-24X44 side focus etched reticle) and all my UTGs (3-12X44 SWAT side focus TS etched illuminated reticle) side focus numbers are very close to actual distance. 
The scope is quite large, and is solid (for some, they would describe it as very heavy at 32.2 ounces). All of the adjustments are heavy, but smooth without a drag. The click detents on the turrets are easily notable, but do not have the sharp click which some people love, this is an artifact of the heavy grease they use. The higher-pitched click, which is favored by some, can be achieved by changing the lube on the turrets with a lighter grease. The 1/10th Mil adjustments appear to be linear and accurate (10 clicks move the pellet/bullet strike the expected amount). I have had some scopes where the click amount was a "serving suggestion", i.e. it may take a few clicks more (or less) than what you expect. For purists, the reticle being Mil Dots and the Turrets being 1/10th Mils are a real plus; so many scopes out there are Mil reticle but MOA turrets (which makes no sense). And the scope being first focal plane makes it so that one Mil dot of elevation is the same distance no matter what magnification you are currently set to. The finish is a Matte Black, not the shiny glossy black which is seen on some other scopes.
​ I had seriously considered the SWFA series of scopes as an alternative. The Athlon edged out the SWFA on total features per buck. I also own a Vortex scope; I would describe the Athlon Argos as "Vortex-Like" clarity, but with more features. I am not a "glass-o-phile"; I can't bring myself to spend more on a scope, than the gun it is mounted on. I realize many people do; but I am not that guy. The scope is currently mounted on a Benjamin Bulldog with high rings (optical center 1.5 inches above the rail). I would likely prefer to go even higher as I must lay my head way over the cheek-stock to get a clear sight picture. Right now, we live in the golden age of scopes, where there is a lot of selections available. There are opportunities for shooters to find a scope which matches their unique "sweet spot". I have a Argos 1-4X24 on my AR15 in 5.56x45. Its in a American Defense Recon mount. I have to say, these scopes are some of the best scopes money can buy in this price group. Its unbelievable how clear the glass is and how well these hold up to abuse in the field. I own Vortex and Leupold scopes and this is neck and neck with my Leupold Patrol which cost twice as much. Athlon Optics is an outstanding company.
