Scope lapping compound substitutes

Hello --

I have a set of Wheelers for aligning and lapping some 30 mm rings. Thing I don't have is the compound. I live in the middle of the Pacific, so finding the Wheeler compound would be SOL.

Permatex has a product relabeled by NAPA as "Water Mix Valve Grinding Compound" (link: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/PTW7652657?keywordInput=7652657 )

Anyone have any previous experience with using this compound for lapping rings?

This was to be my weekend project...

Mahalo,

Thanks Dan. Was looking for Loctite/Clover locally as well and no joy.

Picked up a tub of this NAPA compound, and seems bit coarse for my aluminum Sports Match rings. Will give a go with some gentle passes and see how much material is removed. Compared to sandpaper, probably not the best equivalent, this compound seems coarser than 400 and finer than 320. Soda paste or toothpaste is prolly the next step after that.

My gun (AF TalonP .25 cal) is all broke in and shooting awesome to 65 yards with a US Optics TS-12X MHR. So this is a match I like and looking to make it a done deal by putting the effort into the scope mounts.
