Scope camera question - Tactacam & maybe others

I have a question about the different scope camera systems, more specifically the Tactacam, but I guess could be related to any of them.

I was watching a video on how to set up a Tactacam, and it said you have to adjust the focus using the fast focus knob on your scope. If that adjustment is supposed to bring the reticle into focus with my eye, how is this going to work with the camera? Won’t that bring it out of focus for me trying to use the scope only to make videos clear? Would that then mean that if I keep it clear for me, the camera will not be clear?

I see plenty of awesome videos out of all the camera systems, so I know they get around it somehow.

Any thoughts or help?
 
It has been my experience to focus the camera to your level of focus not vice versa.
I look through the scope at a very detailed grid or chart so I know it is focused, then I introduce the camera and force it to conform to the focus level already established.
Else when I look through the scope camera setup, I would expect the crosshairs not to be in focus with my eye anymore.
Looks like @hawkeye69 is speaking directly to the Tactacam which is awesome info.

Thanks. That is what I was expecting, but the videos tell you to adjust the scope diopter, which doesn’t make sense. That would imply that the video would look right, but I would get a bad picture looking through with my eye behind the scope. That would mess up the entire purpose of the device.

The only thing I've noticed with the Tactacam 5.0 w/FTS is that with various scopes, the position forward and backward (i.e., how far to slide it on the scope ocular) varies. With the Athlon scopes (Ares and Midas TAC) it goes all the way until it stops. With the Vortex Razor HD LH I needed to slide it all the way forward then back out about 1/4 inch. You can do this while watching the video on your phone to ensure you have a good clear full frame picture being recorded.

Oh good.

I played around with one last night, but chose to set it up first on my deer hunting rifle, indoors. The focus did not want to cooperate. I am guessing that it was due to the scope being set up for a much longer parallax and didn’t like my limited range down the hall. I will give it another try outside or with another rifle inside with a much shorter side focus and see how it does.

Thanks. I tried that too, but it must just be that setup I was trying. Sounds like I shouldn’t be too worried and it should go much smoother when I try another setup.

Yep. It was a scope issue. Trying to set it up for the first time on that hunting scope with that long parallax indoors was not a great idea. Tried it on the Sightron today and much different story. I could actually adjust the camera, because the scope was in focus. 

Now I’m just trying to figure out why I bought it! I don’t get to shoot nearly often enough to put this thing to proper use.
