Scope buying Disasters Await

"* FINAL THOUGHTS * I have spent literally a small fortune trying to buy 700$ scopes for 180$ …. Never once was I happy …Except for when I finally opened up my wallet and spent the 700$ ..Simple as that , ya get what ya pay for ."

It's about expectations. You are expecting $700 scope quality. You spend $180 and are not happy. I buy $130 scopes for $100, and I'm happy. They meet my expectations and perform as such (most of the time).

There is a reason why it's one of the best selling aftermarket airgun scopes, year after year. If it was a "disaster", I would not be buying them. Unless an airgunner has extraordinary needs, that scope does the job well.

so many brands, so spoiled for choice. When I was young (yeah, about 1,000 years ago), scopes were few and far between. I sprung for a 4X 32mm scope for my .22 rimfire. thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. it really was nice for the day.

Eventually I bought a Redfield Widefield 1.5 to 4x for my deer rifle. Really spiffy and nice glass for the day.

Today, the average $30 blister pack scope has better glass, better everything in my youth! The thought of the quality of the $250 and up scopes (including that $130 leapers with the duck bill) just blows me away.

If you end up with a Scope Disaster today, I think it's because either your expectations are out in left field or you didn't do your research. Granted, every brand has lemons, but mostly, it's up to us to pick and pay accordingly

Thanks Brian . I'm like most guys and have my favorite scope brands , and types . And most importantly a budget . There are some bargains to be had . But for me , for every bargain there is a large amount of just junk scopes . I know some guys hate hearing that but Scopes at their very least should hold zero, track at least somewhat reliably , and focus to a point that you can clearly see the target and crosshair .... If a scope won't do those 3 things its useless. Its hard , but its fair :)

My personal rule of thumb regarding price and scope quality is under $200 zero it and be done with it, don't use it for clicking and just hold over. $300-$500 generally clickable but click sparingly, Over $500 clickable. until it don't click no more (used so much that there is only smooth rotation with no audible clicks but still works). I have a new favorite hunting holdover reticle BTW... in a cheaper scope package, Hawke Vantage. They come in different varying + + + drop hold over points. Posted the different reticles on nced's Hawke and Warne rings post (Sorry nced!).
