I have been through so many rifles and scope combos over the years starting with one of the very first Airforce Talon SS with a crappy illuminated BSA that did some serious critter damage for 15 plus years without touching a thing for a tune at 26 FPE, not bad for. 12” barrel.
with that said I have learned value of a good optic, almost as important and the gun itself. You mentioned old eyes, so I would imagine wanting more magnification but keep a close parallax. Well the beauty is you don’t have to give up glass quality and weight and parallax for that. The Hawke frontier FFP 4-20 is an amazing scope. No lens coating like Athlon or Meopta which makes NV use like pards difficult. It’s 22oz and will service you well and you can add goodies to it later like a Pard 007s for night fun to 100 plus yards. Also at 4 power and a 10 yard parallax you can still shoot paper at 25y if you want. I have tied so many scopes, vortex, discovery, meopta, Athlon, leupold, Hawke, USO, etc and by far my favorite has been the Hawke frontier line in all magnification levels for Airguns in all calibers for bench, hunting both night and day and just plain woods fun. And it’s usually under $800.
