Scope 4 Iguanas?

What are you shooting with?

If you're shooting with something that's low-recoil, you could go **well** under $2000 using a modern prismatic scope. Iguanas are usually slow-moving so you don't absolutely require a variable-magnification.

You could try something like the MTC 12x50, or an Immersive Optics 10x40.

Both have excellent clarity, and a wide field of view, so target-acquisition is relatively good, given the fixed high magnification.

That would put you far below your $2k figure.

These scopes have very short eye relief, so you will have to mount them quite close to your eye. That's why they are for low-recoil guns only.

There are prismatic scopes with better eye relief, but the cost goes up. I've heard Immersive Optics is developing one, so perhaps there will be a good budget-friendly model soon.

With your $2k budget your problem is that you have too much selection. If you set your budget to $500 max, you would have an easier decision.

I use fixed power SWFA 10x and 12x scopes on my hunting rifles. Just to keep weight down for lugging these around in the field. Higher magnification and FFP scopes are generally 2X the weight of a fixed power scope. Bushnell Match Pro is another scope that has great glass for $500. You can certainly buy Tier 1 scopes in the $2K range but that are lots of less expensive options that will likely meet your needs and with the money left over to buy lots of lead and a good bi-pod.

for $2K? Wait a month or so and Valdada is coming with a Recon G2 mini for around $1800. That if you want a tier 1 scope. I have the Valdada Recon G2 (the big brother) and the scope is amazing but a little big.

I'm waiting for that G2 Mini to get one as soon as it's out.

First I'm hearing of the G2 Mini. Can't find anything on Google. Have any specs?

I was in the same situation 1 year ago. Started with a Brocock Concept in .25

knocks the snot out of the iguanas but follow up shots are slow.

I went with an AEA HP series SS+PLUS in .25. Talk about knock down power!!

And it's a semi so follow up shots are quick. And believe me, you need to shoot them multiple times.

Surprisingly tough lizards. Call Ben at The Pellet Shop. He will fix you up right quick. As a bonus,

he has a UTG bug buster that works just fine. Your in for under $1000. Believe me, this will not be your

last purchase........now you need pellets, chrony, compressor, tanks, extra blahh blahhhh and so on.

this gets deep.

carry on

So for your situation look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgMd6PWnR2I The AEP HP semi auto carbine would be perfect for iguanas. There will be many in the trees and you can take them out as fast as you can pull the trigger. Also semi auto really come in hand when you are shooting at elevated targets in trees.

Then get this scope https://vector2007.com/products/scff-21-veyron-3-12x44ffp-riflescope?_pos=1&_sid=4ebc6e6ad&_ss=r&variant=32762525450287 A vector veyron 3x12x44 FFP so the reticle gets larger as the magnification increases.

That will set up back only around $1K leaving you money for an air source like a compressor or tank and few other goodies. Good luck!

I have been through so many rifles and scope combos over the years starting with one of the very first Airforce Talon SS with a crappy illuminated BSA that did some serious critter damage for 15 plus years without touching a thing for a tune at 26 FPE, not bad for. 12” barrel.

with that said I have learned value of a good optic, almost as important and the gun itself. You mentioned old eyes, so I would imagine wanting more magnification but keep a close parallax. Well the beauty is you don’t have to give up glass quality and weight and parallax for that. The Hawke frontier FFP 4-20 is an amazing scope. No lens coating like Athlon or Meopta which makes NV use like pards difficult. It’s 22oz and will service you well and you can add goodies to it later like a Pard 007s for night fun to 100 plus yards. Also at 4 power and a 10 yard parallax you can still shoot paper at 25y if you want. I have tied so many scopes, vortex, discovery, meopta, Athlon, leupold, Hawke, USO, etc and by far my favorite has been the Hawke frontier line in all magnification levels for Airguns in all calibers for bench, hunting both night and day and just plain woods fun. And it’s usually under $800.

At 77 I'm starting airgunning, mostly paper punching at 15 - 50 yrds. Living in S FL, I want the option to hunt those mini dinosaurs.

Having "old eyes", what scope power would you recommend for shooting short range? A particular brand?

I haven't bought my pcp yet. Recommendation for brand & caliber, under $2,000?

Thanks

@BillR Did you mean to ask us which types of airguns could be had for under $2000 for your intended purposes? Or which airgun and a scope combo options are recommended for under $2000? If you’ve already decided, what have you decided on?
