SCBA tank, bottle, or portable compressor?

I want the ability to tether. Depending on the rifle and time restrictions, I'll take either a 3 liter or a 9 liter tank to the range and then top off the tanks with a CS4-i.

The tanks are transported in the bed of an F150.

I tether to the compressor and a .48l bottle.

After tons of shots, it takes 8 minutes to get the gun and bottle back to 250bar when shooting my 250z. There is a check valve on the filter inlet, to isolate the compressor from the rest of the train. Filter stays pressurized...

That's a very impressive set-up. I just prefer the simplicity of a tank.

I ordered a GX E-5K2. I can't wait to get it!

Congrats - a good friend (EPG) bought the GX E-5K1 recently and loves it.

Did you buy direct from GX Pumps? If so how much with discount and do they offer a 3 year warranty like Amazon ($69). The warranty is a must for me as I am a klutz and don’t want to fix broken compressors. Normal maintenance ok, but not much more.

Following….as I’m finally going to buy first compressor this year at some point. Either CS4-i or 5K1.

I have been going to Dive Shop for 8/9 years to fill GW 98 cu feet and it’s getting old.

I did buy direct from gxpumpofficial.com. I used the 10% discount code and paid $1659 for the E-K2 and the new moisture filter. (I have since received a small refund due to shipping taking longer than they expected.)

The warranty is 12 months (included in purchase) and they also have a 30-day return policy.

I started a thread on this topic if you'd like to read other comments and suggestions: https://www.airgunnation.com/threads/seeking-advice-home-filling-a-100-cu-ft-4500-tank.1332705/

EDIT: I forgot to add that their email support is very competent and friendly. There is a time zone difference but otherwise they answer "right away". No language barrier that I can perceive.

Thanks.

I knew about the one year Mfg. warranty, but I guess GX doesn’t partner with anyone for a 3 year warranty, like Assurion / Amazon as an example. In my mind the extra two years from Amazon/Assurion is great for $69 and is a no brainer. I read their T’s and C’s, and it is solid in language anyway.

Pretty good price for the larger E-K2.

If you would, please post your initial observations on the EK-2. And, I did read your other post and nice to know email support is responsive. Do you know if you can call them and “live talk” by phone to a tech and not an un knowledgeable 800 # call center?

You will love it. GX makes great machines. I have the cs2 and cs4. Impressed with the way the cs4 tops scba tanks so I know the 5k2 will knock it out of the park. Gx is also now sold out of all the big machines and who knows how long it will take for them to restock.

Trucker,

Great endorsement.

On your CS4, can you provide some details on what tank sizes you have, what PSI do you typically top off at, do you stop/start to rest compressor, etc. I have a GW 9L and a 6.8L Tuxxing and I am pretty confident the CS4-I will be great for topping off.

As an example, I normally take my GW to Dive Shop at 3000 psi and they fill, let it cool off, and then top off to 4500/4600 psi.

I definitely will post a review, though I have nothing to compare it to. I didn't see any phone number listed, my guess is that they are Mandarin/Cantonese speakers and use translation software on emails. But if you send an email in USA time, you should have a reply waiting for you in the morning. The email people (maybe even a single person?) are very intimate with the details of the business, I don't have any concerns in dealing with them. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they helped a person out after the warranty period is over.

They should have a nice shipment soon. They sent me this recently:

The first use on the gx4 was topping off a 6.8L or 45 min scba. It was below 3K psi…like 2800 or so. That top off took just a little over an hour. No breaks during filling. I now don’t let the tank go below 3200-3300 psi so the gx only has to run about a half hour max. I also fill to 300 bar not 4500 psi. This amount of air is good for me weekly. If you require a bunch more maybe the 5k1 or 5k2 would be best. I only shoot a cpl days a week for a little while each day.

Hopefully….they told me weeks ago the 5k1 would be back in stock in two weeks. By weeks I mean many more than 2…lol. The last time they were out they were out for quite awhile.
When I asked them about the 5K1, it was more than a month, but I probably asked that a couple of weeks before you did. I think a 5K1 would be plenty for me but I didn't want to wait.

Excellent information guys.

My wallet wants and needs the CS4-I, but I am tempted with the 5K-1. Definitely don’t need or can justify a 5K-2. That is for shops, paintball or air rifle ranges whereby you need industrial strength to fill multiple guns or small bottles.

It’s early June, might wait until fall and see what pops. Never know if a new GX model might show up.

Yeah, I certainly don't need a 5K2. Besides not wanting to wait longer for the K1, I also think getting an overpowered compressor might make it more durable and reliable. And hey, maybe I can start a tank fill business and have it pay for itself! 😆

Funny, if you watch all the Mighty Moose YT videos, he mentions the 5K-1 and 2 could be used to start a busines and fill air guns and tanks to make money.

I think I’ll pass and just hope I can get lucky with 3-5 years with taking great care and not over stressing one.

Best of luck with yours!
