Now that we have had a rash of scammers it has got me to wondering. Just how do you sell or buy something while being safe. From personal experience I've learned no type of payment you receive can not be counterfeited. You can expect NO help from your bank. Law enforcement is up to their eyeballs and are busy putting out the loudest fire. Our legal system is an embarrassment. The crook has more rights then the honest guy. If you actually know where he is, it cost way more to go after him legally then what you are trying to recover. If you could actually lay your hands on them your only real recourse would be to beat the hell out of them, and you wouldn't want to do that yourself for fear of getting sued. ( I work really cheap ). So back to the original question. How to be safe. There are sights that allow you to take a credit card. That way you would have their fraud protection. What are other ways?

Use PayPal, but don't use the Friend's and Family option. Suck it up and pay the extra 3% to ensure that you're covered if the deal goes south. I've been told, but can't yet confirm, that using paypal.me dodges the 3% charge but still provides purchase protection. If anyone else can confirm or deny that I'd love to know.

Back when I bought my gun on here a few months back, I paid the extra 3% to cover my bases. I didn't run into any problems with the seller, but it was well worth the peace of mind.
These scammers aren't just hurting buyers, they're also hurting sellers. I check in and read the posts on this form fairly often, but hardly ever post myself. If I ever want to sell something here in the future, I could totally see someone being leery of doing business with me after looking at my profile.
