SC Johnson Paste Wax Discontinued!

Just found out Johnson Paste wax that I have used on the metal and wood of my guns for years has been discontinued. Such a great product stopped with no reason to the public. Not advertised for guns but one of the best gun finish protectants on there. Was sold in a big can at about $6 in stores. Now leftover cans going for $100 on EvilBay! WTF!!!o_O

Try BRIWAX .. in clear.

While I still have a tin of TREWAX which a very similar product that's likely 40 years old, the evaporation solvents are long gone.
Have been using a fresh tin of UK manufactured BRIWAX with great results ... FYI ;)

Car waxes are a completely different animal to waxes that contain solids as Paste waxes do ... Wrong stuff for application being talked about.

Been discontinued for years..........
I have a can of McGuires Gold Class Carnuba and Trewax. I use the Trewax on the inside of my barrel. Seems to work very well.

That old Johnson's wax was intended for people to wax their wood floors in the old days. No requriement for that product anymore. For gunstocks, I use Renaissance Wax: $18 for a 65ml can.
JPW, Johnson's Paste Wax was the go to wax for woodworkers. The woodworkers have been lamenting the demise of JPW for a few years now.

That is disappointing I have been using that for years as a release agent when bedding rifles guess I will have to be careful using what remains in the can. I wish they would leave well enough alone.
Do not know for sure the reason but on the woodworking forums it was said the chemicals used were not compliant with current EPA requirements and the formula could not be remade using alternatives. Another possibility is as jps2486 said not many wood floors needing waxed these days.

In addition to the Renaissance Wax mentioned above woodworkers have found the two pictured to be good alternatives.
