Sad news, good news.

Thanks!.......but it ain't quite over yet.😉 Got six more today between painting breaks. Very calm and mid 50's. Shots were 35 to 70 yards. Only went out for one picture as it is slippery muddy out there. The one at 70 yds. took a solid thump that I could easily hear. He ran like hell towards the hole for 30 some feet, but I lost sight of him in the weeds. Never holed up. Easy to follow blood trail led me to him. Looks like the shot entered the chest after nicking his arm.

UPDATE: 12-8-19......got four more later today.

UPDATE: The end is near. The town posted a poison warning sign every 100 feet on the plastic fence this morning. A call to the supervisor in charge said the the exterminator will get the deed done tomorrow. I managed to get three on Monday, two yesterday and only two more today. Almost all the close dogs are gone. The few survivors hole up at seeing me now. The "normal" distant ones will not let me get airgun close at all. I did my best, guys.

Thanks, Dave.

The exterminators showed up at 8:30 am and started work. They are using two ATV's to place a 1/4 cup of poison pellets called "Kaput" in every hole. I saw no attempts made to cover holes with dirt. Lets hope the death is quick and none crawl out. I am somewhat irked this had to happen but understand the towns position. I talked to the guy on the yellow scooter, he was friendly. He assured me the poison was quick acting with little risk of secondary exposure to other wildlife. The town will get billed three grand!

The End.

So, we are about 48 hours into the poisoning event and the dogs are out all over. Partly cloudy skies and 30 F degrees. My very first shot fired today smacked this adult male in the head at 40 yards from my driveway. Same one as in the yesterday pictures. The HN 14.6 FTT passed clean through with a loud whack. Fell over right now lights out. Put my gloves on to retrieve it, get a photo and bagged it up for the Monday trash pickup. I love that Diana 34 .22

Scanning the field with binocs I am seeing 60-75 active like nothing is bothering them. All of them distant but normal behavior. These close ones all of a sudden surprise me. I thought I got them all. They must be noticing all the hole "vacancies" and moving in unchallenged by the previous occupants.😁

I have my eye on this fat boy at 65 yds. No wind here today at all. Pretty sure he will be seen pasted over with the Vortex reticle soon.

This is one big 20 acre weed patch, no crops. This time of year they dig up the root balls of certain weeds to munch on.

Well, that fatty is a memory along with one other. Three for the day. Another single shot with a decent hit. The wind had me hold a half dog left, he was crouched facing left. The hit was solid and he rolled over behind the mound. He was bouncing around in and out of sight. After about 30 some seconds no more moving. I could see the tail and the foot only. My guess was a shoulder area hit. I said ...guess.

I go to put on my junk shoes for a picture and got busted by my wife. She begged me to just stay off the field until the fence is taken down. She had no idea I was in there this morning. To keep the peace and make her happy I complied. The other dog got hit in the chest area and holed up. We have snow forecast for Sunday and the wind has changed direction and picked up. Too cold to mess around with the 34 now. I can hear dogs chirping and barking all over. The exterminator told me they treated a section (640 acres) 10 miles from here and the land owner is pleased with the results. Just a matter of time for the grain pellets to take over. That will be it for more kill pictures......maybe.

I think they should pay you to remove them, three grand for two employees to drive around and spread kaput?? I’m betting everyone would be on your side... it would be humane and effective and the clean up would be ok for predators to eat. Hopefully all the neighbors would let you use their garages as blinds! Get about $2 per dog and everyone would be happy, especially that eagle.

We never got the snow, just overcast and 24 F right now. Many dogs out including four within range. This one was doing routine dirt work on his hole. Wish I had an after picture to show. About 40 yds. from my front porch, solid thunk front section hit. He half rolled and holed up. He will not be coming out. No wind right now. Every nearby dog in hiding now at the crack of the 34.
