RWS mount

I had ordered a RWS 48 and a RSW mount to go with it. The scope I chose was a Hawke 3-9x40 not thinking about the length of the tube. Well, it was to short and didn’t fit the mount. It is being returned as I type. 

My question is, I’m now looking at the Vortex crossfire which will fit. Is there any other brands I should be taking a look at that is about the same price point ? 

I’m a air gun noob and never gave it any thought of the mount and scope not working well together.

The RWS 48 and 52 both have a pretty harsh recoil so be sure it is springer rated scope. Many if not most quality rifle scopes are not springer rated and will not last on your gun. Next look for extra space between the tower and the ends of the scope where the rings mount so you have room to move it forward and back in the mount to suit your eyes and body shape. I put a Hawk 4x12x40 AMX on my 52 and it fit both the RWS Bullseye and the Lockdown mounts. Just be sure to get the correct likely one inch scope to mach your mount. I would go with a scope that had matching MIL MIL or MOA MOA reticle and turret adjustments if I had to do it over. This refers to the click value of the turrets matching the lines and spaces in your reticle and is a huge plus with all scopes.

I had an old Hawke Airmax 4-12x40 that held up great for many years on a 56TH and now it’s on a buddy’s Hatsan 135. I thought Airkings had recoil that Hatsan on a different level. 

I have a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 AO on my 52 with well over 5,000 rds on it. I really love the Vortex. Nice simple reticle, holds POI, and tough as they get. I also hear there customer service is top notch.

I’m really considering a Vortex, not sure on the model yet. Crossfire ?

As far as the reliability of Vortex, I have had the Vortex Diamondback 2x7 rimfire on my Hatsan Mdl 95 .22 cal. I’ve probably put about 800 rounds through the gun with this set up. I’ve even hung a night vision scope cam off it. It’s holding up just fine. Tracks well. I only shot 6 to 30 yards. But I’d recommend one if it has the features you like.
