Rust, corrosion, cleaning, protection of our investments

Here is a good article testing various products commonly used for cleaning, lubricating, rust protection, and water displacement. Using the wrong product at the wrong time or for long time frame could mean you are inadvertantly introducing a corrosive to your airgun.

Do to the value of our expensive airgun equipment I figured this would be a good place to leave this link for everyone so it pops up easily when searching.

Yeah I also posted a reminder about this study on GTA a couple of days ago.

I’ve been quite happy with Frog Lube here in the humid southeast. I used to get rust spots developing from time to time but that hasn’t happened since I started using it.

I also live in the humid southeast and have been using FrogLube for about 5 years now. I have been so impressed with it that I haven’t tried anything else.

Thanks for the link. It's good information to have around as now we can plainly see that so few products really protect well from rust and corrosion. Looks like I will be using my Hornady One-Shot a bit more often now.

Make sure you get the right stuff. Hornady makes a couple "One Shot" products and only one of them is excellent for rust prevention. IIRC, it was the red cap. The other one didn't work nearly as well. (I did my own testing several years ago and pointed out my disappointment with the One-Shot and someone else pointed out that I had tested 'the wrong one'. )

Thank you for that and yes, I understand that "One Shot" is a line of products not just one. I have both the case lube with the black cap and cleaner lube with the red cap.
