My .25 cal is tuned to shoot around 56 FPE but I also shoot it at 60 fpe. I use a 9" thick box packed TIGHT with rubber mulch and frequently shake/flip it to keep things uniform inside. First pic shows the thickness in the direction I shoot. Second shows a few exit paths...luckily for me behind this box I keep ANOTHER 6" box full of rubber mulch, and behind that box I keep a 2" thick concrete slab, and behind that slab is 1" thick plywood...always better safe than sorry. Believe it or not I've had shots make it through to the concrete slab and chip it away..only takes a FEW of the same pellets to travel in the same path to create enough entry way to exit the boxes of mulch...so ALWAYS be cautious especially with higher powered air rifles.
In the future I will likely get a 1/4" or greater steel plate to put in the back of my box which will give a loud indication that the box needs tending/repacking.
As you can see the exit wounds are MID box, not upper where there may be empty space...Those are nasty exit channels, you can see several.
