Tuning RTI Prophet Wont' Stay Cocked .25

I have a prophet and really like it EXCEPT...I set the trigger pull like I like it and it works fine...for a week a month, it varies, and then it won't stay cocked. If I go back and readjust the trigger it works fine, again for awhile. Problem is I may be in the field when it decides it needs an adjustment again and I can guarantee it will.. Trying to avoid this I set the trigger pull much heavier than I like it thinking this will help hold the sear when I cock it. Nope! Does the same thing again in awhile.

Is this an adjustment thing or a defect? I can fiddle with the adjustment but defect not so much.

Perhaps your adjustment screw is creeping, a tiny bit of nail polish or purple loctite will prevent that. Use something weak, that 2mm screw won’t take much to round out. If it fires with a bump, it is set too light. Mine has crept a bit in the past.

Sounds like it is set too light and there is not enough surface of the sear to catch the hammer. That little amount of clearance could be causing the screw to move ever so slightly and losing your setting.

Remove the side plate prior to adjusting. This way you can see the mechanics of the trigger working. 
FWIW, if you set it too light you will lose the functionality of the safety.

Thanks to all. I thought about the screw moving after adjustment. It is a tiny screw and I thought about loctite and then I thought I may not get it out if use loctite. I have the blue and use it on a lot of things. If this is to tight a seal is the purple loctite a better solution. I think I'll have to do something. The only thing that can be happening is that little screw is moving. I know when i reset it there is very little friction turning it and it's really easy to move. I'll try loctite, nail polish, or something. I do take the cover plate off and have watched that work. Thanks again.

My trigger crept again. When I checked it with the new trigger scale today, I realized my 2nd stage wall was missing, and pull weight was 2.8 oz.! Tomorrow it gets purple Loctite. I’m surprised mine was still cocking. This gun has a very nice trigger…when it stays in adjustment.

Well, I readjusted my trigger with some purple LT. Adjusted and tested for bump fire with a rubber mallet, put the trigger scale on and it breaks at 4 oz average. I don’t think I want it quite that light…..My Crown breaks at 18-20 ounces, and that doesn’t bother me, though I will attempt to lighten that a bit.
