RTI Prophet Performance inital impressions, one sharp gun!

My RTI Prophet Performance arrived today from Airguns of Arizona, one of the best taping and packaging jobs I have seen really like that they care and take pride in their tasks.

The Prophet came in .22 LR configuration with an additional .30 caliber barrel. The case looks nice, pretty good for a plastic case, room for the gun and 2nd barrel, not sure about a scope.

Over all visual impression of the gun, it is sharp looking, then I touched it, it is sharp and not in a good way, the gun has edges one can almost shave with. On a positive note, the Prophet is well balanced, the gun shouldered well, trigger placement is great, the negative with shouldering is it's sharp! I need to figure out a way to mitigate the sharp edges, a cheek riser, possibly Cerakote for the side panels (I bought the gun in black). On the initial impression would I recommend it, that would be a strong maybe (changed from a no after speaking with Daren at AOA), however, that might change after shooting it and locating a cheek rest. I had very high hopes for a gun that was $1680, I hope this is the exception and not the rule. More to follow after it is scoped and taken to the range.

I almost bought one of those, but I heard someone else talking about how sharp the edges were and I decided against getting one. You would think for that price that they would at least deburr the thing.

If it shoots great and fits you well, you could have it coated, like you said, or maybe you could just plasti-dip it.

I did not think of plasti-dip have done truck parts in the past. The coating, might be a better option, first step is to see how it sends lead!

Started off as a $800 -$900 gun couple years ago when first introduced as the Priest. I didn't buy in for $850 after researching the fit and finish for $850.

Finally bought a used one for $750 came with new extra bottle and new extra regulator and misc parts etc from a repeat trusted seller I wouldn't pay that much for a brand new one but had to try one to see 4 myself yup kinda rough. Seller told me that too over the phone.

That kinda cash better spent on the Taipan Veteran or a used FX Impact X or MK2.

I am assuming that you’re talking about flashing from the molding of the stock. I have gotten guns that had those sharp edges like that. But not in that price range though. As long as it shoots good, that’s the main thing.

NO, NO FLASHING..!

It's either machined or stamped aluminum sheet material..! NO "molding" involved ! Either method will leave sharp edges if not deburred, which it seems that the RTI guys musta thought that this "finishing" operation was beneath them..!

I will be taking a machine file to the sharp edges on my Prophet. Then I guess use some spray some orange (?) paint on it. Would cost a small fortune to have them anodized.

Yeah, agreed, for these prices, we all that bought the Prophet and maybe the Priest, got screwed...

I will see what solutions Airgun of Arizona has to offer, from the reviews they are a stand up company. If I had not cut myself, would have been looking for a solution and the one you have was on my list. I expect this quality from an airgun off of Alliexpress not one that is touted as much as the RTI was, maybe it was a Friday at 4:55 gun

I personally own FIVE of them 2 are 22 (one 480cc one 580cc) and 3 are 25 (two 480cc and one 580cc) reason? They have me a super duper good deal on a brand new blem 25 with a small crack in the cheekpiece.

Trick is ti seat the pellets in the magazine with something such as a modified golf tee seat them all in the same. Typical MOA (or just over MOA) at 100 yards.

If you lucky as me I have one of mine in 22 that's 0.75MOA that shoots one inch groups at 125 yards.

What no love for the Prophet, I do think all PCPs are over priced, Sharp edge on the Prophet that must be right above the handle, I bought a simple cheap kind of plastic off ORION and it fixed the sharp edge... I have not seen any help me fix my Prophet post or leaking O rings and other air gun stuff... I am just stuck on the middle east guns built like tanks and shoot shoot and never have to work on them, I am sure some and most of you guys Odoyle can take and repair an FX Impact with your eyes closed,,, OK that's not for me I just like to shoot them.

@airgunmike56

I think the Prophet looks great, it shouldered well, my issue is it should not have been sharp enough to cut me. I thought about fixes, went on line to find a fix, I must be blind as none were found and you are the first to offer a solution that might be a simple fix. I will talk with AOA, see if they have any solutions. The reasons I bought the Prophet were, 1.) Reported and demonstrated accuracy. 2.) Minimal O rings. 3.) I really liked the looks of it. 4.) The shot count between fills. The things that bother me 1.) I cut myself 2.) I should not have to fix a gun of this price so it will not cause me or another physical damage. As of this moment in space and time sending it back feels like my best option, however, I will see if AOA has a remedy.
