RTI Prophet - How to remove end cap?

I’ve been trying to remove the end cap on my RTI prophet without much luck? If feels like it’s super glued and won’t turn at all! I’m switching from .22 to .25 and the caliber change requires that the shroud end cap be replaced to match barrel caliber. Anyone got any recommendations to remove these RTI shroud end caps without damaging the shroud?

If you can’t find a clear answer in these threads, maybe PM one of the members posting in them who’ve managed removed theirs without breaking anything in the process of working on their rifles.

I’ve had the same issue with no luck. I also think it’s either glued or locktite. I know there are holes at the end of the unf thread where you can stick an Allen wrench to get some leverage but haven’t tried it. I was afraid I might damage it but maybe that’s how?

I have a heat gun I can use if is glued but afraid I might burn the plastic piece with o ring around it. I have 2 RTI performance rifles and both have the same situation.


It be interesting if anyone has a solution?

@robster01 I was looking at the instructions to remove the barrel in the manual and it looks as if the end cap is threaded and supposed to be fairly easy to unscrew. https://www.rtiarms.eu/assets/docs/prophet-manual-min.pdf
Maybe it is threadlocked on. Are there any small set screws on the end cap? It may be a good idea to email or call the company or a distributor to get more info so you don’t damage your shroud or rifle.

My RTI came off easily, but my FX was a challenge. I used heat and an easy-out to remove it, if you let the heat do the work, it shouldn’t take too much torque on the easy-out to break it loose. Good luck with it.

Bought my Prophet used from AoA so if had been thread sealed it may have been removed beforehand. I did have trouble taking the endcap off with finger pressure when I got it home and wanted to clean the barrel. I just used a small Allen wrench in the holes and with a very slight force it broke loose - remember lefty loosey

I finally got the courage to use an Allen key to unscrew end cap and walla, it worked! If you try to unscrew end cap with bare hands it will not work at least for me it didn’t.

Thanks for the feedback guys! My Prophet and Priest 2 both do not have the holes in the end cap for an Allen key to be inserted. Guess I’m screwed! I may try a little heat, but will be sure to remove the shroud first. May have to sell the .25 barrel kit if I can’t remove this end cap!

Apologies …I probably have my nomenclature mixed up a bit. I was thinking you were talking about the shroud cap (#8 on the diagram below) which does have a couple holes in it, but now I believe your problem is likely with number #9, which screws on the shroud cap #8. I see RTI terms #9 an end cap in a spare parts list on their website. It acts basically as a thread protector for the shroud cap and as a placeholder for a moderator. So I did not have any problem removing #9 from my Prophet, it came off easily just unscrewing with my fingers. I suppose if it was tight on mine, I probably would have tried wrapping a piece of leather or thick rubber around the cap to keep from marring it, and then very gingerly use a pair of pliers to see if it would break free. I imagine you have already tried something similar, but just wanted to throw it out there just in case.

Aimright, that schematic is great. I have no idea why I never thought of just putting "Prophet schematic" into a search engine. Off course I spent 10 minutes on their website looking for it before I realized I was going about it all wrong. Thank you for posting.

I also have no holes in either of my end caps on my upgraded Priest 2. I have them for .22 and .25 cal.

I did the same on my .25 Cricket ; I wanted to replace the factory cap by another one with a 1/1 UNF thread. The cap was glued with a very tight fit in the shroud and I think this should be the same on RTI . First I drilled 2 holes in the diameter of the cap to put the tips of a plier , so I was able to rotate it , and at the same time I heated the shroud with a torch ( I repainted it after ). This way the cap was slowly pulled out.

I cleaned the inside of the shroud and turned another cap with UNF thread to put a moderator . Works fine. Anyway I don't know if this is your idea in removing the cap.
