RTI Priest - Any .22 or .177 owners out there?

Long story, but I wound up picking up a Priest in .30cal that I want to turn into either a .22 or a .177. Seems to be a bunch of .25's out there, but due to pellet cost this is going to be either a .22 or .177. It will be a plinker and small game hunter for a new air gun shooter. (Not new to shooting, just new to air)

Trying to find out how the .22 and .177's are shooting. What reg pressures are you using as well as what kind of power are you shooting? Not much info from guys with these calibers. Basically how are these small calibers doing in this platform? Would be nice to turn it down for plinking, but also turn it up in the 30-40fpe range.

Help me decide. Thanks

I have a priest 2 with prophet type upgrades that was sold to me as a prophet. This has the CZ 20 inch barrels in .22 and .25. I currently have the reg at 125 bar and with the .22 barrel, shoot 18.13 and MRD with the hammer adjustment 1/2 and 2 turns in from flush. At those settings it’s very accurate with the 18’s at 920 ish, and MRD at 870 FPS.

I have a Prophet performance in .22 which is a Priest upgraded. The gun came stock with a factory custom made LW 1:32” barrel. This gun/barrel is designed to shoot the JSB redesigned 25g. Now it’s my understanding it will shoot other .22 pellets very well as well although I haven’t tried them. Out of the box (and where I’m going to leave it) the reg is set at 165 shooting the redesigned at 985 filled only to 225bar.

The reason I purchased this guns is two fold; Extreme Field Target and our annual prairie dog hunt. With the redesigned JSB’s I’ll get an improved BC for flatter trajectory with less wind drift and the same energy as my .25 Cricket. Ammo is less expensive than slugs with almost the same results.

IMO, you can’t and won’t go wrong with either caliber choice. I’ll just about bet you in .177 tuned to 110 bar and 880 fps you’ll get 150 shots on a fill or maybe more and if you want .22 15.89 diabolo pellets, up the reg to 125 and speed about the same speed and 90 to 100 would be very doable.

Just remember that your Priest settings are always going to be different than a Prophet of the same caliber. What reg is on your Priest .30?

The reg is set at 170bar right now. I have a 2nd reg that is at 120bar. It does have the power plenum. I think the only difference between it and prophet is the barrel length and CF tank.

Sounds like this it what it would be doing if I put one more shim in the reg to bump it from 120 to 125. Mine does have an additional "weight" inside the spring.

I've got a bunch of CPHP's too. If I could use the same reg setting and turn it down to 900 or so with these that would be just about perfect I think.

Personally I'd like to see it in .177 in case he gets tired of airguns quick and I wind up with it back, but doesn't seem to be many out there to compare. Hoping it's not like FX where it seems the majority of .177's have issues with real good accuracy.

BTB, I think .177 is more popular in the UK, and if I’m not mistaken, Andy’s airgun reviews has profiled both the priest and prophet, maybe have a look on YouTube. I was originally disappointed that I didn’t get the LW 24” barrel, but now not so much, particularly with JSB supplying inconsistent redesigned heavies which the LW was designed for.

I got mine delivered today.. got a scope mounted and out to sight it in. I Also set up the chronograph to verify the numbers I was sent with it. I didnt do a shot string, just 3 or 4 shots over the chronograph. FX 25.4gr 22cal---925fps. Reg looked to be 132ish.. it hits with one heck of a smack... accuracy is right there. If I do my part it definitely does it's part. Shot it 30yrds to a 100yrds... so far I'm very happy with it.

Nice. How does the new regulator sound? I'm guessing you got the adjustable one. This gun included one of the original adjustable regs (gauges 90 degrees apart) and it won't hold a set pressure. I turn that screw for like 1500psi then 20 seconds later it's going over 2K. Not sure if they can do anything but I sent an email to the RTI contact us. Even if it cost a little I was thinking maybe I could upgrade thru them. I have read that there were issue with these and they were apparently replacing them with the in-line gauge ones.

Yes it's the adjustable reg.( gauges in line with each other) It doesn't have that high pitched sound I've heard on people's videos. But I definitely hear it fill the plenum. It isn't annoying. I'm keeping any close eye on the creep. Yesterday after I was done shooting (I shot an entire tin of 350 through it) I left it on 200 bar and put it away. I will see this evening after work if it has creeped and report back. I'm guessing being new it probably will. My dreamline did for a few and now it's fine. I'm taking the advice the members here that told me about the FX and the RTI..... just shoot it! Let it break in. So I'm not touching nothing until (or if I ever do, it shoots that good for me) I have to.

I saw the new RTI Prophet Performance Compact, and it is a sexy little thing. RTIarms.shop is already selling it, but RTI's website isn't updated with the specs. Gregor did a review on it, I was told not all the claims are probably spot on, but it should be a great alternative to the Impact Compact or similar, if you are so inclined for such a gun.

My reg creeps just enough overnight that the first shot is typically low, then is fine for the rest of the day. This is the reg with the two gauges in line. I also do not have any odd noise when the plenum refills. Hajimoto and Orion are promoting a new ninja reg that is said to specifically address known problems with the RTI regs.

Today after work I snapped up the Prophet to shoot some more (new toy ya know) the reg pressure looked good.. same as yesterday evenings (guessing 132bar) but sometime this evening I noticed during shooting the reg pressure jumped up to just about 150 bar and stayed there after I noticed it. I did notice an impact change but still shooting accurate. When I finished shooting the reg still showed 150 bar. I let it set for about an hour and the adjusted it back to 130ish (gauge isn't real defined) so far it's been about an hour and a half and it hasn't moved. I'm guessing it's still breaking in?? Possibly?? Hopefully after a few days shooting sessions it settles in

JungleShooter, I ended up having reg creep problems on my Priest 2, and RTI sent me an updated reg through AOA. The new reg is much better, but will still creep 3-5 bar if sitting for 24 hrs. It doesn’t creep beyond that though, and that is acceptable to me. I also have a Prophet Performance now and it is about the same as far as creep, maybe 2-4 bar after sitting 24 hrs. The new regs are a slightly different design, and use a coil spring as opposed to a belville stack, as well as a couple other small differences.
