RTI Performance .30 Shooting Problem

I have an RTI Performance that I bought from a gentleman from the forum. He had the .30 standard and decided that he would get the RTI II and sold me the standard. He upgraded it to a performance and also sold me a .22 barrel. It came with the .22 barrel and shot lights out from the get go! I decided to swap out the barrels to the .30 and that's where my fun began. The barrel change is straightforward and easy. I got it all done and took it out to the range - this is pre-chronograph. I started at 50 yards and noticed that the shots were very short, so I cranked down the hammer spring and raised the pressure. Neither increased the speed and I actually had the hammer spring all the way down. What I didn't do was change out the the hammer spring that came with the original prophet standard .30 - which was a much heavier spring. So I changed out the springs and now - with the chrony - I was getting speeds over 1000 fps with a 50 grain JSB. I got great groups at 50 and 100 yards and had the speed down to about 960fps. But now I get the "ping" in my right ear as I shoot which is very annoying. So I started to tinker with the pressure and the hammer spring again and I managed to get blow back in my ear when I fire! I asked RTI if they had different "springs" for the different calibers with a performance model and they said to "try" the .30 spring first. It is extremely tight and I really can't flush the face of the hammer spring screw with the butt plate and keep the gun cocked - which with the bigger spring is actual work to cock it! I put the .22 back on with the original hammer spring and will take it back out and get it going again. Any tips with someone that may have had this problem would be wonderful.
