Royale Regulator Malfunction

I bumped up the regulator pressure on my Royale's regulator to 160 from 150. First thing I noticed afterwards was that the regulated would drift down and then up exceeding the original setting (test gauge connected). After watching Ernest's video on dis-assembling one I tore my down after taking all the needed measurements. If was pretty nasty inside and the internal orings on the piston were flattened out and worn. Fortunately I had all the correct O-rings for a rebuild but one which I found that a 010 was close enough to the same size that it would work. I even resurfaced the piston seat in a drill press to remove the indention. I reassemble it and had to make two additional adjustments to get it to 160bar. After a shot it would dip down 2-3bar but return to and settle at 160. It was looking great even after setting a couple of hours with my test gauge still hooked up. I decided to add a little air to the tank and for what ever reason the regulated side decided to increase to the same as the bottle side. I tried firing a few shots but it failed to control back to 160. This morning I dis-assembled it again but everything looked good. I relubed everything and re-assembled it again but the regulated side still followed the bottle pressure. Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue and how it was resolved.

Ernest oh Ernest where art thou.....

Check o-rings with 10x loupe or magnify somehow, quite possible a nick. Surfacing sealing seats can be tricky as well.. There may be some other model dependent issue but the two I listed I would think are the most common issues.

160 bar may exceed the max of what the reg is intended for...150/155 is the max of many regulators that I am aware of without modification.

Agree with @ackuric, probably flattening the Belleville washers all the way... maybe try re-stacking the washers in a different configuration to increase the "spring" tension...

My guess too.

Double stack the BV washers, or replace with thicker BV washers.

This is easy to achieve, and you can always go back to default.

Also 90 shore o-rings on the reg piston might help. Also easy to try :)

Thanks guys. I pulled it back out this afternoon and doubled checked things again. I reassembled this time with the brass bonnet that keeps the piston in place screwed in a little further than what it was before which should have shortened the piston throw a wee bit. I also made sure the BV washer's edges were flush with each other. This time when I screwed the bottle back on the HP side went to 160ish and the regulator stayed at about 120.. hey hey, now where getting somewhere. Pulled it back out probably four more times increasing the spring pressure and each time the regulator pressure increased but not to the bottles pressure. One more pull took it to 150-155. I shot a few rounds through the chrony and a few more empty shots and so far so good. I'm not sure what it was that has fixed it at least for the time being. Maybe ensuring the BV edges are flush or possibly the adjustments to the brass bonnet. Keep your fingers crossed.
