Romainian pioneer .177 both variants

Pioneer Romanian youth training gun .177 This one was dated 1969

This is a small air gun. It’s 35.25 inches long with a pull of about 13.25 inches. The barrel is 14.25 inches. The last bit is just a muzzle brake. The gun weighs 3.75 lbs., and the cocking effort is just 10 lbs or less

It has a rifled barrel. And a manual safety. And sights adjustable for elevation. The breech detent is a ball bearing, and the breech seal is a standard o-ring that replaced the leather one. The stock is made from a dark brown bakelite.

A later variant of this rifle was made with a wood stock. Was slightly larger and a bit more powerful. The rear sights different and had swivels for a rifle strap.

I remember a bunch of these were sold cheaply here by one of the surplus-gun outfits a few years ago. They had their "15 minutes of fame" but then kinda disappeared, so thanks for posting this. I did not even know there had been two versions of the Pioneer!

These are really quite interesting little air rifles. They seem inspired by the classic old Diana models 15 and 16 junior rifles (or their Haenel or Slavia equivalents), but are sturdier, harder-shooting, and nicer-looking I think.

I don’t know if you are into powder burners. But there is another Romanian training rifle. Chambered in .22 long rifle. The M69 (M1969)

About twenty years ago you could pick them up surplus for $99.00. The ones that work. Work great. If you get a bad one. Well they are a bit of a project.

Yes I am. I will look into them.
