ring height for FX Impact

I just ordered an FX Impact. Previously I had an opportunity to shoot one. I found myself in an uncomfortable shooting position with stock cheek weld while trying to find the sight picture. The rings were FX "no limit" set to the lowest position. Does anyone have some recommendations for ring height with the Impact?

Thanks for your assistance..............Rod

I would get the rifle in hand first. Then you can check exactly to see what works for YOU. We all do not agree on what is the best height. I asked for my first one and got a wide range of suggestions and then hated what I picked. I realized then, that you never ask anyone else what height they like, because it is a personal preference.

I like to just use printer paper to help me judge needed ring height, but people use pennies or pop cycle sticks, etc. I’ll use my paper example. I take a stack of paper and put it on top of the rail and then set the scope on it, and address the rifle. Is it low or high? Adjust with less or more paper until you find the height YOU like. Then you will know how high of rings YOU want. You would just need to measure then. You need the measurement from scope rail to middle of scope rings, usually documented in inches. Each company’s low, medium, high are not the same, so that is why you measure and then find the rings that match the needed height.

The final height I settled on and loved was with a 1.5” mount and an aftermarket cheek riser.

I want my scope on any gun as close to the barrel as possible. I have.the Impact with medium rings and struggle with getting my eye centered in the eyebox. I've searched for a modified lower cheek piece to no avail, someone could easily 3D print one.

So my solution for now is that I just removed my cheek piece...and yes it's cold and sharp edged against my cheeks but works just fine. Have an adjustable butt pad but that doesn't solve the problem. Most just use high-rise mounts but like I said I want my scope as close as possible to the center line bore of my barrel.

Thanks to all for your recommendations. I think smok3 suggestion is wise, get the gun in hand and then start the fitting process. I come from a silhouette background so I am used to conventional stocks. The impact is modeled after the AR15 platform (grip and stock); I would like to get the Krafford & Lypt adjustable buttplate, that should help achieve a proper standing shooting position. BTW I used my brothers 25 impact in a small bore silhouette shoot last weekend. The firearm shooters laughed until they saw how effortlessly the .25 cal knocked over the metal rams at 100 yards.

Any shooting sport - archery or rifles -

You close your eyes and find a healthy body stance;

Lift up the rifle/bow to an aiming position as this is your comfortable body posture;

Now hold the rifle/bow keeping that position - open your eyes...

Where is the POA centerline in relation to your sight/scope?

That is your body natural aiming position...

You never adjust yourself to the gun but vise revers you adjust your gun to your posture.

Or something or somebody will suffer....
