I owned two the first I sent back. The second was also a piece of crap gave it away. Barrel was oversized. The sight terrible. Could not get a even decent group. Ya looks cool but a piece of crap.

Here one to try if you don't believe me. It will be the worst money ever spent. I wouldn't give $50 for one. The one pictured is the underlever model the stock is synthetic. If it's as bad as the ones I owned which it probably is it's a piece of crap.
However I did get a Norica Spider and Dragon GRS evolution in .22 they are both great shooting underrated rifles and a good buy at the price this site is asking

From personal experience I can provide the following...
My uncle has one of these. The stock is plastic with a coating over it for the different textures and colors. It comes off very easily and will be all over you.
The trigger has about a 20lb pull... the trigger... I did hit the broadside of my barn with it at 40yds, but not much any smaller.
My Uncle got it at a steal and chalks it up to a lesson learned... might play around with modding it later on.

Well, last week I bought a Ratay 125X in .177
Out of the box the trigger is as good as my Gamo Magnum with modified trigger. After sighting at 10 meters it shot 15mm 5 shot groups with JSB Match middle weight. After some practice with it I am shooting one 5 shot hole with it. This is open sights. The guy I first saw shooting his was doing 12.5mm groups at 25 meters with a scope on it. I don't care what anybody say, it is the most accurate budget airgun I ever shot with.

Quite an old post but maybe Retay got their act together and finally started building better rifles??
You're the first person I ever saw say they liked the one they got..lol. The posts above yours explain why. When they first hit the US market a few years back, quality was beyond lousy and the few shooters who bought one either dug in deep to try and make one shoot or didn't even bother and either returned them or tossed them in garbage cans.
Bent barrels, nasty triggers, beyond bad open sights, loud, inaccurate, lack of claimed power, lack of parts to name a few. Only thing I liked about the one I had (still do buried here somewhere) was how well the stock actually fit me when I shouldered it. The rest of the rifle was absolute garbage I thankfully only paid about $85 for at the time.

Like I always say, the internet and forums are timeless. The date is just an indication when it was posted.
I don't know how it was in the past. I only learned about Ratay three weeks ago. I was skeptical but then I saw it's results and bought one.
Someone here complained about the barrel diameter. It is 17mm compared to most other airguns with 15mm barrels. The 17mm is a benefit for me. I saw slow-motion videos of barrels twisting and turning when the shot went off because of harmonics and gun vibrations. The 17mm will most definitely reduce that, like a competition firearm with larger OD barrel. Most barrels are not 100% straight, in very few are, even with firearms. Yes, that with other parts on it make the gun a bit heavy, but I think that helps ith the accuracy of this gun.
Like I said, the trigger on this one is fantastic. This is the 125X, I don't know about the others. I cannot say the open sight is the best I ever saw, but it is not worse that the Gamo. In fact, I am not pleased with the sights of the Gamo. I do have a scope on mine as my 59 year old eyes are not good for long distance open sight shooting any more. I am not goiing to put a scope on it as I actually bought the gun for my wife and she cannot shoot with a scope. It is for her for 10 to 20 meter shooting at most. I did some plinking 20 meters with it today with cheap Marksman pellets in the red box from England (I grew up with that) and I was very pleased with that.
I cannot confirm the power myself. The booklet say 1161 fps, but the length is also given as 1161mm. It might be a typing error. The shop I bought it from said the tested it at 950fps with alloy pellets. More than that will cause inaccuracy anyway. I use my Gamo Magnum only with 18 grain pellets, I don't want speed but hitting power. Parts I don't know, but maybe they got better like you said.
Before this I actually bought a Crosman for my wife, and if I have to rate all Crosman Airguns with my experience with that one, I will say Crosman is the biggest crap on earth. At 10 meters the best "grouping" I could get with that as 70mm, and only once, the rest of the groupings was 90mm and more. I sent it back for a refund and bought this one, Like you all know, there are many people who are very pleased with Crosman, but not me.
Maybe you should give the newest Retay 125X a try, you might like it.

I tried a Retay springer a few years ago. 10lb trigger that felt like dragging a nail across rough concrete. Shotgun groups. I threw it in the dumpster, I wouldn't take another retay if you gave it to me.
